Uh, you can't effectively v-band your intercooler pipes with those parts. They need to be o-ring'd to seal completely, and then they won't be able to flex at all. That's why they invented adel-wiggins (and similar) clamps, which are o-ring'd on both sides and can deflect something like 20* (I think). Also, see Tial bov's, which mount with a v-band and o-ring.

I had a v-band on my turbine outlet on the last setup. Even at the 2-3psi of pressure that pipe saw, it still didn't seal. I could see carbon buildup everywhere. Also, if you want to simply press 2 pieces of metal together and expect them to seal, they'll have to be VERY flat/compatible. I've actually heard of people having more problems with rolled (formed) flanges warping under welding heat because they're so thin, and having especially poor sealing. You might, MIGHT be able to get away with v-bands like this on a speed density (map sensor) setup, but with a mass-flow system you'd be screwed.

Not to mention fitting pipes with absolutely zero margin for error would be the biggest PITA you'd ever come across. 4 couplers, 2 pipes, 0 big deal.

I should also add, if you don't want to worry about the pipes blowing off, do a brace system with threaded posts and bars. Enjuku did that on an old car. Very simple concept. Coupler holds the pressure, brace holds the pipes together.

Epstein beat me.
Vband intercooler is bad news bears.

Couplers work just fine, and overcomplication is never good.

I thought I read somewhere that they make a seal that sandwiches between the two pipes so seal correctly under pressure unless it was the wiggens clamps you mentioned. Looks like I'll scratch that idea then. I do want them on the exhuast though if they work well.

Intercooler wise I dont feel like spending alot of money for some premade stuff that isnt going to fit anyways.. And I'll have to move stuff around anyways since the tubs take up too much room, I dont even know how I'm going to run the intake yet. I figured I'd just find a decent core and do a mid-mount set up.

Wiggins clamps for 15psi is serious overkill. Unless you're running a small intercooler and ALOT of boost there not necessary. If you are realy that concerned I suggest you get a bead roller and roll a bead on to your piping, weld dimples on the ends of the pipe, or the screw method Epstein mentioned.

I run solid intercooler pipes on my car with 4 couplers and 8 t-bolt clamps. I've never blown a pipe and my car sees 12-15 psi consistently. You'll be fine if you run decent clamps on silicone couplers.

t-bolt clamps work great... I've never had issues with pipes blowing off unless the angle was really off or something like that.

Just checked the Burns site. They actually mention lapping v-band flanges flat to correct for distortion due to welding. Just general FYI.

I just figured since I'll probably be making intercooler pipes that I'd just those instead of couplers. They do make ones that can hold high pressure and temp but they are alot more expensive. I just though most V-band clamps are the same but apparently they aren't.
