Lightbulb Bottom End Thrust Bearings

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the thrust bearings in the bottom end of an SR20 with the motor in the car? I really do not want to pull the motor. Just to be clear the bearings I am referring to are the two bearings on either side of main number three.

the problem is that you have to pull the upper oil pan which is a near impossibility in the car. THEN you have to pull the main girdle out and support the crank shaft in the motor with a jack. too many possibilities for error. best bet is to pull the motor

Well what you said about having to support the crank is not true, because the oil pump will be on one end and the rear main seal will be at the other. I could see if neither one was in place needing to support it but with those two things in place it should be fine.

i can see if there was an oil-pump like sleeve on the end of the crank, but not just the front of it - -

The front cover should be able to support the crank for the 30 min max it will take to do the thrust bearings. Besides that there is no load on the crank until the motor is running, not to mention that the crank is a factory forged unit.

if youre such an expert, why did you ask for help?
if you want to do it in the car, go for it.
but dont be suprised when bad stuff happens.

Sorry if I upset your delicate way of thinking for all of you who doubted me. I am a progressive thinker and if there where not underlying problems with my crank that I did not know about I would have been successful. Oh and by the way how do you get rod knock from thrust bearings? I know what I am capable of and I asked about this just to get some opinions. Thank you to all of you who gave an opinion. I value all you had to say.
