Default S14 KA MAF on S13 KA experiment

Experiment status: fail.

Reason: Internal calibrations of S14 MAF differ from the S13 MAF even though they both utilize the 3 wire connection with the same colored and ordered wires.

Driving impression: Car would not idle for shit. Sounded like a cammed up boat motor, ran pig rich. Phenominal top end power, zero real world drivability. Did shoot plenty of flames though.

Thanks to Taylor and Durdan Perfab for letting me try this experiment, at least we all learned something and the parts would have been throw aways anyway. Would have been a cool/cheap upgrade for others had it worked.

did you test voltages between the two at comparable levels? (idle, 3000rpm, etc)

Nah, I basically ran out of time and patients. After working on the car for nearly 7 hours yesterday, I was spent.

The swap turned it into a rotary engine?!

After researching this a bit further, I came across RPM based voltage readings on S13 v s14 mafs. The voltage curves are totally different. After even more thoughts on just swapping the guts out, I don't think that would work either. If I remember correctly, the voltage is related to the size of the sample tube (in ford MAFs anyway) and the larger diameter of the s14 maf would throw off the voltage readings even with the s13 electronics inside. For all of the effort/expense involved in making this work, it would not be worth the minimal power gain.
