Default Need a new starter for your Ka?

Then look no further than your local Nissan dealership.

The Ka has a dying starter, so I decided to price out a few options starting with Advanced Auto. They charge about $170-190 for a rebuilt starter. No warranty expressed or implied. Not a big fan of no-name rebuilt items. Usually they only fix what was wrong with the unit and don't perform a complete rebuild. Also, from my experiences and those of others, no-name rebuilds generally do not last.

Just for shits and grins I decide to see how much Nissan will charge. A rebuilt starter from Nissan is $170 and includes a 12mo/12k mile warranty. Not only that, the guy at the counter says the entire unit is ripped apart and completely rebuilt. So I take the guy's word and order a rebuilt starter.

Pick up the starter today, and no shit...everything is new. New wiring, contacts, plastic bits, gear, harness, etc. Looks practically brand new. Only the metal housing looks as if it were reused (which it is).

Just thought some of you may be interested in this info.

It is a beaut, I can vouch. I think all they re-used was the aluminum frame from the looks of it. Definately a bargain for 10-15 years worth of use.
