I really hope when you say "stock engine" you mean leaving your motor alone. The s13 head is no different from the s14 head. The intake manifold has some butterflys to remove, and that's about it.
The KA-E pistons are low compression, with the given combustion chamber on a KA-E. The DE has a smaller cc, which will skyrocket the compression to 11.4:1 or so. This is NOT what you want to run with boost.
So. F the P&P, as it has claimed the life or 2 or 3 motors due to overheating. F the lifter swap, as shim-underbuckets own. F the pistons, or you'll grenade your motor. F the head, because you won't get anything out of it (except maybe newer seals). About all that's left in this list is to remove the butterflys in the s13 intake plenum.

If a P&P is done correctly, it can add loads of power and response. How would adding stock compression forged pistons make an engine detonate?! I did remove the butterflies and it didn't do anything noticeable, but its comforting knowing theres nothing clogging your lower plenums air passage. By stock he means stock bottom end, metal head gasket, stock head, upgraded injectors (i hope), upgraded fuel pump, and dual electrics to help keep it all cool.

is the port-to-water jacket space that small cause i have a friend that keeps on talking about wanting to hog the head out. i keep telling him its not about the size but the flow. he cant grasp that concept.
i had my exhaust ported a little but didnt touch the port opening. i was aiming for velocity. but tragecly(sp) the motor only lasted for 2 hours due to other mechanical failure.

Rubberberner - Just changing to forged pistons won't cause detonation, and if you were referring to my post, I said that using sohc pistons in a dohc and boosting will cause problems. Forged pistons are less resistant to prolonged detonation, and will melt, rather than shatter.
Buck - The theory between P&P and overheating is that there is less mass in the head, and thinner walls, meaning that as it gets hot, the head warps, kills the headgasket, and the motor dies. Chris May (438rwhp KA-T in GA) lost 2 motors, then didn't do a PNP and kept his last one. A friend Jeff in CT also lost a motor, and left the second head alone and hasn't had problems. I personally did a slight PNP on mine, port matching and cutting off burrs, and then a full polish.
