Question Questionable swap...

I am getting another 87' 300zx, turbo this time around and was woundering... I like the old style, any ways I was wondering if I switch to a SR20DET would I have to switch out the tranny from the VG30 as well... Also what price range I'm looking at in doing such a swap. Basically I'm looking to around 400 at wheels and convert from z31 to z32 disc and what not... Tho this wont be untill the march, aprill time... So I have time to werk and save... Not to mention I'm looking to do this at my house.. and just buy the swap as needed...

well if you don't do it at your house......go to z-fever and do it. Martin has been doing a hand full and there sweet as sin. You just have to ask questions and do it yourself. Good luck though

IF you're starting out witha n 87 Turbo, don't ever put an SR into it. Kouki Z31 Turbos are VERY rare to begin with, don't ever slaughter one by putting such a horrible engine in for the chassis.

The VG can make more power than the chassis can handle, trust me on this one. Give me a call or PM me if you want to talk VG and go fast. I'm Mattback off Z31.COM and my Z ran 12.7 with minimal mods. (pump gas only, too)

Not saying anything bad about the VG30DET, but our Z31 SR swap worked out pretty damn well. Very fast and lighter than stock....sounds like a good combo to me. However, may as well start with a nonturbo Z31. We used the SR tranny. Either engine will make plenty power. More torque in the VG.

yea, keep the VG, the SR is a great motor don't get me wrong, but for that chassis, that engine can make so much power off of minimal mods and some decent tuning. I'd PM Mattback if u wanna make 400 horses and save an ass-load of cash-o-lah (by not buying the SR)! Goodluck bro if u ever need an extra set of hands or the right tool for the job, PM me.

OK so if the VG30 is going to pull more torque, doesnt that break down to the whole torque equals power thing.... As well as torque would be better for drifting and road racing..... Or am I just having a mis-understanding??
In ref to using a na drivetrain wouldnt I also run into too much of a power delivery to the wheels and start burning things up.... It was something that some one was IM'ing me about awhile back....
