Return of the crankwalk
Damn that sucks. But I can say one thing about the nitrated 7bolt crank since I had one on my past car. It held up great for thousands and thousands of miles. Jerry was the builder of the bottom end. Well Tom as long as you have another engine ready to throw in then its not the end of the world. lol
I haven't decided what I'm going to have built for a new bottom end.

People, if a nitrated crank is needed in a 7 bolt to keep from walking in a few thousand miles don't you think there would have been a huge problem a long time ago with all 7 bolt cars.
I'm not saying using a nitrates crank is a bad idea but it's not needed to get a car to last more than a few thousand miles. Debating that is just stupid.

Thanks but I'm going to just put the car up for the summer while I figure out what I want to have built for the new bottom end. I will be away a lot over the summer anyways.
I'm thinking I'll probably do a 10:1 2.0 LR motor.

Are you saying a 7 bolt must have a nitrated crank put in or it will walk in a few thousand miles?
Cause of its not what your saying then everything you posted is worthless.
How many 2g's with 7 bolts out there do you think have nitrated cranks in them?
Or are you just blinding defending someone I havent blamed for this. Even though he never even checked the clearance on the bearing when assembling it. Said he didn't have any plastic gauge.

What I'm saying is what your friend Jerry is saying, but sense you want to single me out and put what he says on me. I will say this, come on Tom do some reading, don't get upset with me because you gave the guy a used crank to use with new bearings... Is that not what lancerman pointed out as being the obvious cause of your failure... We all use 7-bolts but for some reason yours is the only one that has these problems. This whole thread is useless, Buy a manley crank next time around since you have no luck with oem and avoid these type of threads all together.
What that the car went 60k miles before crankwalking stock from the factory, then went a few thousand before doing it again after a used crank from a automatic that measured out perfectly was put in with new bearings? Yes i`m sure the problem is that it was a good condition used crank that was put in. Theres no way a non nitrated used crank can last a few thousands miles on a rebuild. Again I didn't call anyone out or blame anyone nor am I doing that now. I have no factual idea why it walked so fast and it doesn't really matter at this point. But funny thing is when Mike was there with me when I was told the bearing clearances were not checked and that he was calling Jerry to ask about why the crank was hard to turn when he put it in, Mike looks at me and says this motor isnt going to last 3k miles. Well he was wrong. It went close to 4k.
Why is this post worthless? All I did was post what was going on with my car. This is a car site correct?
You quoted me yet failed to answer a single question of mine. But i`m sure I know why.
For the record we have had plenty of luck with OEM cranks. Its all any of us down here have ever used.
And I know plenty of people with built 7 bolts using the factory non nitrated crank with out crankwalking this fast. This is just the 1st one I have seen crankwalk in a few thousand miles.

Your reading comprehension is really suffering right now, maybe your tired... Read post #8 and then #10 again then get back to me...
No where did I mention nitrating was better than anything, I have never ran a nitrated anything in my life, nor have I ever had crank walk.
Your questions are directed at the wrong person, but I think you know that and are looking for someone to argue with besides your buddy. Like Jerry, I'm sorry I don't argue with stupid... That's the direction you seem to be going so I will leave you with this
I could really care less. I'm sorry this happened to you. Your boy Jerry made a comment by it not being a nitrated crank, and by it being a used crank with new bearings is the cause of your problem. Then he blamed the mechanic for parts you gave him to install. My comment is how the hell can that be the mechanics fault... lol It seems that you just want someone else to blame.... Anything after that is nonsense so feel free to run with it..

I didnt blame anyone or even hint towards it in anyway when simply posting that my car is down do to crank walk.
If its Jerry's opinion that the mechanic made a built error and its his right to have that opinion. But don't say a mechanic just uses the parts you give him. That just retarded and you know it. They are supposed to advice you on what's needed to fix the car and how much it will cost. They tell you what needs done, they are the expert not the customer. I for one am not a mechanic. I supplied a crank and bearings that were approved. I then ordered what I was told to order for him to do the job. I dont know why it walked so fast and don't care to guess. Just about every person I know with a built motor used a used crank that measured out with new bearings. The simple fact that clearances were never checked does bother me though. I'm sure that's just me.
