Default Eclipse Gst common issues?

My friend is planning on buying a GsT. The owner claims it runs great, no issues, some mods, looks to be in good condition. It is a convertible.
Is there anything in particular we should be looking for when checking it out? What are some common issues to be worried about?
Im not too knowledgeable on these cars so any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Your best bet is if u have a shop u can take it to thats close to the where ur buying it take it there and have em look it over if they are cool. I did that with my 3g and I found out it needed new plugs and wires new alternator and clutch. (well i found out about the clutch on the drive to the mechanic).

Check the turbo for shaft play. Do some searching on how to do A boost leak test and compression test. Do it before you buy the car. Look around the engine bay for signs that it's been heavily modded and returned to "close-to-stock" condition. Check the radiator fins in front of the turbo for heavy bends which would indicate someone was in there changing out turbos. Check the driver side front part of the frame for holes that were cut out for an aftermarket intercooler. It's always better to find A DSM with close to no mods. Head over to dsmtuners.com and do some reading on what to look for when buying A DSM.

No reason to do a boost leak test when buying a car, lol. Thats a bit overkill. You know its gonna have leaks, and it doesnt matter, you just fix em...

But yeah. Definitely bring it to a trusted mechanic if you have to ask this question.

I would stay away from Spyders... I love mine, but there is so much work to do with the top, and window angles. If I could to it all over again i would buy a coupe.

I honestly don't see why not. You never know, i've seen some sketchy shit with people selling cars. One of the intercooler pipes could look like swiss cheese. Thats just more time-consuming and money to put into it.

If the intercooler pipe looks like swiss cheese, then Id say you would notice the car running funny. I guess if you wanna lug the air compressor around, and bother the seller to take his car apart so you can hose it down with soapy water....all Im saying is a couple boost leaks are gonna be the last of your worries when buying a used car.

Compression test on the other hand, thats a great idea and worth the time to test IMO.
