The daughter's 2000 eclipse auto tranny recently failed --- need to get one or find a good tech near plant City / Lakeland area ... anyone?

She was driving at the mall, slowed down to turn, and as she started to accelerate the car felt as though someone popped it out of gear, the neutral light started flashing, and that's when it failed to go forward or reverse. There were no signs prior to this event of any tranny problems --- what does anyone know or think is happening?

Neutral light on with no activity at all ... help!

I would check for burnt fluid perhaps, has it been changed? unless its something like a external valve module and its a simple fix Do not get it rebuilt. There is a very high failure rate on auto tranny rebuilds. Yes it can be done and you can pay a ton on something backed with a good warranty and maybe that fits the budget and the outcome. I would however find a good used transmission change the filter and fluid a lot and go that route. Might be worth a 60-90 fee to take it to a trans shop and really find out what the deal is.

 

Fluid was fine ... one quart low. Man do we know how some tranny shops can screw people! Any tips on where to find a good used one?
