A new issue with my eclipse
Alright first off i have a GST 2g.. Car has been running good, until coming home from work last night. When I would be stopped and start rolling a weird crunching noise would happen. Sorta sounds like if you were put a wood block in a shoe box and shake it once so it hit the top of the box then then hit the bottom part of the box. It seems like it is coming from the front right of the car. I thought initially it is probably just a cv joint, but I had my dad look at it and take it for a drive and he said that it doesn't sound particularlly(sp?) like a cv joint problem. Anyways, it seems to be getting worse and now my car is sitting at my dads house. Also, it would make that noise if i was to hit a bump or shift gears.. What do you guys think?
why do you say that? i dont know if this helps much i could hardly hear my dad on what he was saying, but it sounded like he jacked my car up and was moving the wheel around and said that it was making the same noise i was talking about, that the driveshaft was really loose. I really hope there isn't a huge problem with this car. If it helps any the car is 5spd with 46k miles on it 98 gst
yes i was worried
, my car has a 1st gen CAS on it, any idea why? All sidewinder could tell me about what they did on the car was "a crank fix". Dont worry i didnt take the car there but some idiot did... how could i narrow the problem down to it being an axle or driveshaft or what not? you dont think it could be anything up with the tranny right? i mean the car was running so damn smooth and outta no where......... this bullshit. thx for your help man i appreciate it.. even if you are trying to scare me, i need it

I know this sounds stupid, and im not trying to put down you or your dad, but the same kinda thing happened to me once, and i thought it was an axle or CV joint, and i couldnt figure out what the hell it was. so i ended up taking it to the family mechanic, he drove it and thought it was a bad CV joint as well. So we put it up on the lift and went to take off the wheel to get a better look at it and the problem was just the lug nuts had come loose somehow and the noise was the wheel shifting around on the hub. Needless to say, i felt like quite the dumbass. Moral of the story is, check your lug nuts too.

He drove the car some more last night and I guess after ten minutes of driving it the noise stopped.. So he looked in the engine bay to see what could be the problem. He found that the passenger side motor mount was warn and what was probably causing the problem. Along with coming to a conclusion with this problem, a new problem occurs.
I loaded the car up with coolant a few days ago to the max, and the car was running fine no overheating. Yesterday when he wes checking the car out he noticed that the overflow tank was empty. Water was leaking from under the timing belt cover.. He refilled the antifreeze and told me the water pump seals were most likely going. Only thing im worried about is that it is a possibility my head gasket is done for right? I mean I havent noticed any bluish smoke coming from the exhaust at all. When i get my day off on friday im gonna change the oil to see if theres any coolant in it. If not it would be safe to assume i need to replace the water pump right?
