Default Still need help...

90 Eagle talon tsi fwd.
everything is stock except big16g

car will start up, idle reallly low and then die. will start right back up and will stay running if i give it gas. once the car warms up i have no problems at all. sometimes will take 10 minutes to finally fire up and is fine after that. had an obd1 scanner, heres what came up:

coolant temp sensor - replaced afterwards
knock sensor - deleted balance shafts i think i need a 2g knock sensor
crank angle sensor - is this the cam sensor? and will it randomly work when it wants to?
and then cylinder 1 random misfire- my cam to crank timing and ignition timing are perfect, coil pack is fine, plugs and wires are new, car doesnt act like its misfiring?

should i just go ahead and buy a cam sensor? seems like the only culprit?

The crank angle sensor is not the same as the cam sensor. The crank angle sensor is located behind the crank pulley. There is a crank angle sensing blade that rotates with the crank telling the crank angle sensor position of the crank which then signals the ignition system when to fire. If the crank angle sensor or blade is giving out that could intermittenly cut out your fuel and ignition signals.

I wonder why there is a CAS part listing for the 90 model if it doesn't have one.

Eagle Talon Crank Position Sensor | Free Shipping | 1990, 1993 - 1994, Dorman, Beck Arnley

Edit: You learn something new every day. The cam angle sensor/crank shaft position sensor, etc... is all the same in one. Time to change out the cam sensor.

That is funny. 1gs definitely dont have a crank sensor. They have a 4-wire cam sensor instead of the late model 3-wire. I do know that the early 7-bolt Hyundai engines had a crank sensor though. So maybe that has something to do with it?

OP: Did you verify that the coolant temp sensor code is gone? It could be a break in the wire or something. How does it start up when the engine is already hot?

*edit* Ah i see you say it starts fine when hot. Definitely check that sensor wire...I was just having the same exact problem. My sensor was unplugged so I plugged it back in and it fixed it. Then the next day the plug broke. lol

We scanned it again last night and the only things that came up was crank position sensor and knock sensor. the coolant temp sensor was definetly bad but its fine now. Still having same problem starting up cold, so now I'm going to try and locate a cam sensor since a new one is up there in price. lol thanks alot guys i couldnt find that info anywhere.

Cam sensor being 180 can cause problems. When looking for a used one make sure its a 90 can angle sensor. As 90`s have several 90 only parts and this is one of them.

I took the cam sensor out before I did the ignition timing, there was a line and a dot and I assumed they were supposed to be lined up and installed it with the motor at tdc. Should I try flipping it over? lol I bought another cam sensor today just incase. Need to relace O ring anyway..How distinct are the marks on the sensor? They were small and I didn't see any other way to line it up
