Default Goal of 450-500 hp, need your opinion

Pending the proper supporting mods, what turbo/manifold combo would you consider to hit between 450 and 500 hp?

@John - yeah....couldn't help it. I also found a parts car for $600 I couldn't turn down. Sorry bro.

I'd like to see both a junkyard combination and an off the shelf combination.

If your looking for a junkyard combo, look into A Holset HX35 I believe?, with a external wastegate. Don't quote me on that, been A while since I was looking into it. Hit up the junkyard and pull one off an old Cummins turbo diesel. Read up on them on dsmtuners.

hx35 is good... Off a cummins deisel. 200-300 dollars

There are so many setups. Just search. I dont have the energy to type it. I figured you at least had a budget.

Anything around a 35r should be all you need to reach your goal. An externally gated setup with even a log style manifold can reach 450 500... But thats pushing those shitty parts to the limits.

You will find it alot less frustrating if you get a tubular manifold and a "good" turbo with good piping and tial components. It sucks to have to tear it apart and replace cheap pieces 1 by 1 and buy the more expensive parts anyway. my .02

Engine management and fuel are another ball game.

DSM link and 1000's with a new 255, maybe 2...

reguardless, its expensive.

Search around and educate yourself with the setups people are already running and making around what you want.

good luck

I'm digging that holset turbo but finding one looks like a bitch. I planned on tubular to be the type of manifold to go with, although the cast revhard looks like it just wide open with the shortest runners. As far as engine management goes, it's up in the air. I'm taking a general consensus of the members here for their best opinion on what to use.

Great advice. Ill also add dont go cheap. u want a reliable car u need to get good parts not ebay brand stuff.

You should probably go ahead and build the bottom end. If you have high mileage. Also homie above me set it clear. I cant tell you how many people are trying to go the cheap route and us shops end up giving them info in the first place and they dont listen. Till they do it the cheap way with ebay parts. THEN bring the car to us and tell us to do what we said in the begining. Just think about it. Power-Powerband-Turbo-Fuel-Efficiency.

Big difference if you want a fully built inc dyno queen or you want a car that performs for a purpose. Good luck and do your research. As a few shops, or some people with proven setups. INFORMATION IS FREE.
