Default need advice on my 2nd gen

i just bought a 96 eclipse rs with a 420a and need some advice.

i bought it knowing it had a problem, so the car idles great shifts great and i know there is no mechanical problems with the car, but as soon as the car gets to normal opperating temperature (half way on the temp gauge) it just shuts off. i got a P1391 code running a diagnostic, which i've read means either manufacturer controlled ignition system or misfire or a bad cam or crank sensor. i also read it could mabee be a ASD, so anyone that could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. thanks again.

I can tell you that its the coil pack that sits on top of the engine block. Same thing happened to my friends 98 Eclipse GS, and it also happened to my 95 Dodge Avenger 420a. The coil pack needs to be replaced. Best thing I can tell you to do is to go onto Jegs.com and order an MSD Coil Pack. They are specifically made for the 420a, and a heck of a lot more reliable, and give you better throttle response. It is the coil pack though.

I would contact MSD about that. Sounds like a defect if the coil pack shuts off when the engine warms up. Usually thats what the factory coil pack does. I never had a problem with the MSD. I would contact them. It is the coil pack though.

Replace the coil pack. MSD coil packs I heard are garbage, people who have had problems with them would switch them out with a stock coil pack and bam problems gone.

SRT-4 owners despise the MSD coil packs, nothing but trouble and waste of money. So get rid of that MSD coil pack. Slap a stock one on there and tell us what happens.

There's no performance gains by having a MSD coil pack.

The MSD coil packs aren't really garbage for the 2gnt's, but that doesn't mean that the stock ones are either. Do the keydance, tell me what all it shows.

it has an MSD right now, and from what i've heard they are nothing but problems on the 420a.
