Default A few things to fix...

Okay guys, here's the deal...
  • I'm finding oil on the top of my valve cover after periods of "spirited" driving. I've replaced the oil cap, thinking this was the problem, but I'm still getting oil pooling in the front part of the valve cover.
  • My valve cover gasket is leaking oil. I've heard this is a common problem with the 4g63, and I've even heard that even if you get a new valve cover gasket, it'll end up leaking shortly after. Would anyone recommend a specific valve cover gasket to replace my leaky one? Also, if it's true that they leak in no time, are there any suggestions as to how to prevent this?
  • After having swapped the small 16g turbo from my other Eclipse, I might be leaking oil from the return line (I think...this is the line that runs from the turbo to the bottom of the engine, right?).
  • I only get about 150 miles per tank of gas. I run on 89 octane pump gas, and from "F" to "E" is about 150 miles. Then my gas light turns on (which I would expect to mean my car is saying, "Hey, fuel up within the next 5-10 miles or I'm going to die"), but I can keep driving for quite some time after that. After about 10 miles with the FUEL LOW light on, the light turns off, and I can continue for another 20-30 miles (that I know of...I haven't actually TESTED how far it'll drive until it becomes completely empty). Anyway, I'm just not sure if it's my gas gauge or if I'm really using that much gas! Would it have to do with a smaller gas tank due to the AWD-ness of my Eclipse? I know it's using too much gas, because I can smell it when I'm out of the car, so is there anything I can do to fix this temporarily until I get my A/F controller?
  • Once I start pushing more than 17psi of boost, the car bucks, backfires, and almost feels like it stalls for a quick moment. I've been told I'm probably hitting fuel cut. Any thoughts?
  • My clutch pedal won't make up its mind as to whether it wants to engage/disengage when the clutch is fully depressed or when it's barely pushed. I had the clutch adjusted, but it's still indecisive. At times, I only need to press the clutch down half-way (though I always push it to the floor), and at other times, I need to push it all the way to the floor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Why are you running 89 octane in your car? You do realize these cars are suppose to run on premium? That is probably the reason why your car runs like shit. You need to start putting in 93 octane and stop being cheap, especially if you are boosting. You are fucking your motor up badly and your are causing detonation, so start filling up with 93. You need to run all that shitty 89 out and refill with 93.

As far as your gas mileage goes, there could be several reasons why you are getting shitty mileage. You timing could be off. You may have boost leaks. Your car is not tuned and could be running too rich. The reasons go on and on.

And as far as your leaks go, you need to pressure wash the engine bay to clean it from all the oil and do the same for the underside of the car. Then, try to locate all your leaks.

boosted cars need 93 and use gas. ive never really had a valve cover gasket leak, just get a new gasket and seal it down good. but in all my cars its been normal to see oil coming up from the cover somewhere, even with new caps they still leak too. Bleed your clutch, fix your leaks, get your car running right. Like said above, its running rich and your using the wrong gas. If you have someone with a reputable shop, they will have a leak detector kit. Its a dye and a uv light you put in the car to detect where the leaks are originating from. Or wash everything down good and start from scratch.

Sounds like you bought a car that is ahead of your game buddy.. Should have stuck with a honda if you like runnin 89 oct.
These are reasons why dsms have such a bad realiabilty rap. Because you get people buying the car who dint know shit about them throwing 16g`s on them and runnning 89 oct and cant figure out why his car is bucking and hitting a fuel cut. You have a couple of oil leaks that you already know where they are coming from and your asking what needs to be done.
My question for you is, have you even upgraded you injectors or fuel pump? If not just go ahead and start looking for a new motor the route your going. And if you have changed the fuel pump. Sounds like the float is off on your fuel sending unit. Which will cause it to read the fuel level wrong. It just needs to be adjusted. And for your oil cap get another rubber gasket for it. No need to change the rubber one already on there just add another and that will stop the leak.

John I think that his car is pulling a great amount of timing running 89 octane. Which in terms will make your car seem rich. As you stated he needs to put 93 only or better in his tank.

I know on the fuel door of the car. It says premium only.... Anyone have a clue what that means? From the sounds of it I think there are a few people who dont know what that means..

oil cap gaskets save lives, as well as 93 octane

you might have a bad coolant temp sensor too.

my valve cover leaks too, and i dont know what it is. ive replaced the actual cover and gasket, and ive replaced the gasket on another occasion. now, after maybe 2-2 1/2 months of "heavy driving", there will be a little bit of oil in there, so its not so bad. it just seems to be a problem with dsms. like crankwalk.

as far as the oil return line goes, there is a lot of stress on that line. It goes from the turbo to the oil pan, and gets a lot of movement from the exhaust and turbo. mine leaks too, only very slightly. well, it used to be slightly. ive kinked it recently trying to put a new manifold on and now it gushes out oil. i just ordered another one from mitsu. $11.89. 2 gaskets for it, $2.00. not too bad.

run 93 or the highest pump gas you can find. in michigan we had 94
but i can only find 93 down here, before i get into jet fuel and such.

your clutch is either about to shit a brick or its not adjusted correctly. have you ever really got on the gas and the trans slipped?

i would check for cracks in the valve cover and change the gasket, check or change your pcv valve and check your o2 sensor those will give you bad gas mileage. also use 93 my car gets shitty mileage too im sure theres more things to check. hope that helps
