Default sluggish performance

just bought a 1998 eclipse GS today (AUTO). the only thing is the guy said he installed a new timing belt and hasnt had the same performance since. well i drive it back and felt the missing power when you first hit the gas...any clues what it could be...its fine on highway other then slow takeoff when punching has still hit bout 90 MPH

You just need to take it somewhere so that they can check the timing on it. If the timing turns out ok, then do a compression test and a leakdown test on the cylinders. Do all of this, and see what the results are and then post back.
