Default New Turbo,questions on installing

OK, so i just bought a new EVO 3 big 16G turbo and i was wondering what are some of the supporting mods to make it run right? Obviously a new fuel pump and j-pipe. speaking of the j-pipe does it relocate the compressor outlet to the location of the stock t-25? by that i mean, will it work with the hard side mount piping i just bought, or will i need to do a bunch of fabrication? Any other little things that might be overlooked when installing this turbo? ive heard with a walbro 255, it takes like 15-20 seconds of cranking before the motor will fire up? How do i fix that? Thanks for any help.

You don't need the fuel pump unless your going to be running 15+ psi. If your hitting fuel cut then yes its time to upgrade to the walbro. A j-pipe is more for a front mount setup. If your still running a sidemount you'll probably need to run a 1g compressor outlet pipe which faces in the direction of the smic. Don't know if it would actually work on the 2g sidemount without modifying the lower intercooler hose. You don't need supporting mods to run the 16g it just all depends on what psi your running and how hp your wanting.

ok your gonna have to mod the oil return line, oil feed line, the lower inter. pipe(for a sidemount) i also put new coolant in and out hoses......yes the 16 sits completely different. it will be a tight fit with the fan. and yes you dont want a j pipe unless you want a front mount. as stated above. even with the compressor outlet your stock lower pipe still wont fit its to short. youll need to get one that works. the 95 gsx is longer by about 5 inches but im still not sure if it will work.

because of all the fab. work involved its easier just to buy a j pipe and front mount with piping.

I have a 16g install kit for sale - $60 (This is brand new and only missing the turbo-exhaust mani gasket (because I gave it to the guy the purchased my old car)). I believe that's the best price you're going to find anywhere. The kit, obviously, comes with everything you'll need (except the aforementioned gasket).

Did you install the valve cover and TT yet?

Here is a pic of the exact kit I have for sale (this is the pic from the vendor's site (turbochargers.com), not a pic of the kit I have, but rather an example of the same kit). The guy I sold my old TSI to gave it to me because he was short some cash. He was going to use it along with, ironically, the same turbo you have just purchased on a 2g he once had. However, the 2g went down.

Anyway, I think it's important to know that his turbo failed the first day after installation. Do you know anybody else who has purchased a turbo from the vendor you purchased that one from? If so, how is/are their turbo(s) holding up? Finally, if you don't have any testimonials from friends (or even if you do), does the turbo have a warranty? He may have purchasd his turbo from a different vendor, but it was an eBay turbo nonetheless.

Let me know what you want to do (concerning the installation kit).

No i dont know anybody who has bought one but it does come with a 1year/10,000 mile warranty. The only part im worried about is getting the compressor outlet to work with my new intercooler piping for the stock side mount. i know i will need the j-pipe but im not sure where it relocates it, RRE sells another piece along with the j-pipe and they say it goes from the j-pipe to the stock intercooler location. does that mean it goes all the way to the intercooler or just to where the stock intercooler hose is?

Do they have any pictures of it? If they say its from the j-pipe to the stock intercooler location then I'm sure it goes from the j-pipe to where the lower hose of your intercooler is curently attached.

I had a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump on my 1997 GS-T for over a year with nothing like that ever happening. The only noticable differnce is the subtle whinning noise, but I liked it after a while.
