you can always goto autzone to check the engine light code for free....

the fuel filter sometimes sits in the middle part of the car underneath....just follow the fuel lines from the gas tank and you should see it....you cant miss it

Should recirculate the bov unless you have supporting mods that can handle the venting. Messing with the BISS or airflow will only keep it from not stalling but its still not good as far as air/fuel mixer.

dumb question i know ...what mods would be supportave to not have it recurlating .. i have the intake full exhasut 3in down pipe not cat no resinator w a dtm and huge fmic

Recirculate it now. Then come back to us if it doesnt fix it.

The maf is accting for air that its taking in but when you vent it doesnt come back through... If you want to vent get a GM MAF or a stand alone or something.

Well don't know if it applies to a 2g but I know on a 1g you need a VPC or atleast an AFC or something to control the air flow and trick the ecu. On my 1g TSI I had Small 16g, Crushed BOV, Ported O2 Housing, Ported Head, Ported Intake Manifold, DejonTool COP, etc. and if I took off that recirculation tube my car would idle like crap, give it gas and it would be fine but as soon as you let off it would almost stall or shut off. Recirculating to me is better then venting... venting just makes people here your BOV more.
