Default Evo fmic

Somebody wants to sell me an 04 evo fmic core for 200. Is it worth it for a 14b 2g? How much hp are the evo fmics worth anyway?

The last report I heard on them is that they're good up to 400hp or so, though they're prone to heatsoaking above 350. I've heard of people doing even more than that, though, and that kind of thing is highly dependant on what turbo you're running and how much heat it's putting out at the boost level you're running. It's a pretty good intercooler for the money.

Do not get a johnny race car intercooler. They are thin and from what I hear they suck ass. I would chose an evo8 fmic over any johnny race car intercooler any day out of my life.

The evo fmic is a very well designed front mount. I would try to get it a tad cheaper than $200 but $200 not a bad deal.
I would definitely buy it over one of those johnny racecar ones.

Interesting, the JRC intercooler has made over 500whp. Haven't heard of a lot of cars making that much power with Evo8 fmics...

What are the dimensions of the Evo8 fmic? I know it isn't thicker than 3", and the JRC cooler is 2.75" thick.
That's funny, I have never heard of anyone doing anything impressive with a JRC intercooler, especially that much horse power. Got any kind of proof?

IMO and from what I have seen the JRC intercooler is a thin piece of junk. Gets the job done for people running medium boost on tdo5 turbo's but that is about it. ymmv

the first thing you need to figure out is how much WHP you want, and I am guessing you're asking if it is a good upgrade for a 14b in a 2G? the answer is yes if that's the question, the EVO8 FMIC(average of 350WHP and maybe a little more)can support enough flow to get you into the low 12's(not on a 14b though--lol-with my turbo kit you can hit 10s-lol). The cost might be more than you anticipate even if the FMIC is $200, to get a complete setup-piping(at least 2.5" mandrel),silicone couplers,clamps(t-bolt)and some bumper hacking can run up the cost quite a bit. If you do put it on get a IC sprayer and enjoy....

REEAAAALY.... If it includes couplers piping and core, then i think thats the deal ill go with. Of course, if i get more good feed back about JRC. I know the piping and couplers are expensive. and yes i am only looking to make about 350 whp (pushing the 14b to it's limits)

Sounds like bullshit to me man. Sorry but quoting some lines from someones website that has no proof is not a smart thing to do.

But I got a golden bridge I'll sell you for $300 built by the chinese. No pictures but it's here.

Overall: 30 from outside of end tank to outside of end tank X 8.5 tall X 3.125 at the thickest
Standard Piping: 2.5 OD X .065 wall X 2 long (2.25" OD available to save money on reducers)
There are twelve cooling rows and eleven fin rows on this intercooler.
The cooling rows on this intercooler are internally finned.
The end tanks have a brushed finish.
The threaded mounting points are steel. There are three inserts in the top and three inserts in the bottom.
I have been selling this exact size and style intercooler since late August 2004 and customers have already made 500hp with it. The 8" intercooler carries a price tag of $245 shipped and the black anodized finish is $50 more. You can use all the shopping links below."

The price is up from when I bought it, I believe. Still a good deal, though. It is no super-intercooler, like a big Spearco core with custom endtanks made for 10second applications. However, it is on par with the Evo8, and perhaps a tad better.

At any rate, it would be worth $45 to me for a new FMIC, rather than a used Evo8 core with weirdly angled inlets.

The hell with what he says its good for.
What does your 16g powered car put down or run in the 1/4 with this fmic set up.
Whats your intake temps?

A 14b turbo has never made 350 whp. You will be lucky if you can make 300 hp with a 14b. I believe a 14b turbo has never put down more 315(ish) hp.
However, you can create the piping for the evo8 fmic for $100 as well. Therefore, a fmic kit that includes an evo8 fmic, piping, couplers, t-bolt clamps, j-pipe can be fabricated for between $250 and $350 (depending on how much you spend on the fmic and if you purchase a j-pipe (cost?)). I don't know if you know P.J. (from N.P.R.), but he used an evo8 fmic and custom piping on his '91 talon. I don't believe he spent $100 on the piping/couplers/clamps. Talk with him if you so desire.
