ok the book said for 1990-1992 you use the timing mark by the oil pump. well when i timed the motor i had to turn the crank pully a little so the belt will slip on. it was barely off but noticable i dont remember exactly how much off.

Line up your marks to top dead center. Then turn the crank over six times and see if all the marks are still lined up at top dead center.

UMmmm....i going to go out on a limb here, but did you loosen up your tensioner? to redo the timing or did you just slide the belt off and are trying to slide it back on? You can do that if you have skills, but if your not sure on what your doing the timing will be off, and it wont line up correctly.

if you have a 1g go here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-1G.html if you have a 2g go here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.html.....that will tell you everything you need to know....for the MD998738 bolt just use the long alternator bolt....
