I think the comment about your car is a little unfair. How many miles are on it now? I mean, it's only a 15 year old car. Shit's going to go bad on it eventually, lol. If all car parts were to last forever, auto manufacturers wouldn't be making any money. To top it off, you have a first year model. Many first year model cars are going to have some problems/bugs. Through the years, the manufacturer refines/fixes those problems (for the most part).
It's a performance car, for a budget price. Surely, it's going to require more maintenance and have it's share of problems. People that bitch about their DSMs falling apart, shouldn't of bought it in the first place (exception to those with lemons, bad crankshafts, etc.) Most of the people that are experiencing problems, brought it on theirselves. The majority of those who take care of their DSM, usually experience very little problems with reliability, unless it's highly modified or for the other reasons that I have already noted.
Sorry for getting wayyyyy off-topic there. I agree with the guys in saying that if you want a "performance" car, stick with a 1G/2G turbo. The 3rd gens don't have a solid base to build off of.

Those kids with their $6-7/hour jobs can only make their monthly car payments. They can't afford the maintenance and/or not know how to work on their cars. Many kid that do have a little extra cash, blow it on modding their car or riceing it out, before doing the required maintenance.
Back on topic like i said dont get the 3g, if you want a new one save for a 4th gen they should be in the showrooms soon and with the 260 hp mivec v6 thay should be pretty quick.
