You should be ok if you do all of your current mechanical stuff and don't need a car to get you around daily.

i do need it daily.....=( and i havent started my new job yet. Should I just find a bone stock Talon TSi AWD with low miles and nothing really done to it? Then would it be reliable? How did all those 1g's get 120+ miles from their production date with out problems but all of a sudden everyones DSM's are acting up? Wierd....

Mine is currently running fine.

Its not all of the sudden, they just break alot and need attention.

oh trust me...they didnt get there without problems

i bought my dsm bone ass stock, and it was only 1 owner and never beat one cause it was a semi old lady.

ECU got replaced
transfer case got called in
valves broke out of the blue (happened to me about 3 days after i owned it)
leaked a little oil since day 1
stupid misc fuses would blow for no reason
tranny grinded 5th
hardest timing belt job EVER!

they are far from reliable, even if you baby them, i mean bone stock, owned for 3 days, and breaking valves...wtf? i mean if you really want to see the essence of a DSM, watch the COPS video of a talon being chased....pulls great and everything, but even after like 25 minutes of running, that SMIC heatsoaked and he started detonating... they are great cars to go fast quick...but you honestly better have a tool set, jack, jack stands, 1 of every radiator hose, anti freeze, oil, water, and a flashlight or two just to feel safe...cause thats what i carried around. honestly, i still do with the bird too but, i suggest find yourself a nice little beater truck to haul the occaisional parts.

timing belts are easy...... And if its leaking from the shaft the t-case bolts to then its the output shaft seal is leaking and the tranny must come completely apart to get to it..
