1987 RX7 Starting problem
Ive got an 87 GTU that has been giving me starting problems, But not fuel/flooding related.
The starter was replaced before I bought the car. So its relativly "new".. but
Its seems to get power to the starter. You can here the solenoid "whine" but it wont send the gear to the flywheel. Ive got a solid 12v on the battery, no dummy lights.
When the starter will start the car, you can shut it off and start it right back up.
Any help would be great..

The starter is spinning, but not engaging toward the flywheel or is it just dimming the lights and doing nothing else?
I had a problem with a car where it would get power to the solenoid on the starter, but not start. I briefly jumped the solenoid wire to the battery to ensure that the starter was good and it was. It was fixed with a new solenoid wire.

It doesnt sound like its spinning, and thats the problem, (maybe).. Its just drawing power and not starting it 100% of the time. I just pulled the starter out to check for any visible defects and couldnt find anything that caught my eye.. I fixed/repaired some lose connections and some broken wires. as well as repairing the battery termanals. The car started right after that, but again the solenoid/ starter wouldnt start and just whined after several turn ons/offs.

I would take the starter back off and down to the local parts store, throw it on their tester and figure out whats up? Between the wiring or it just sticking? better off just grabbing a new one (providing it acts the same way on the tester).
