torn in between the two
i would get a s2k over a rx8 in 2 seconds- unless you need to be carrying semi big things or mroe than 2 people- s2k is better in every way possible except for not having a rotory

No its not like an electric motor at all. It just revs alot higher than most engines. Also having just gotten home from an autocross today I can certainly tell you that although the rx8 can handle well and can be quick. It pushes like a mother. is not very quick and is rather ungainly on weight transfer (its bigger). The s2000 is nimbler, has more useable power down low and IMO looks better. Stock for stock the s2000 will outhandle the rx8. And im sure after identical mods it will still take the top spot.

Also. Rotaries although ingenious on paper are unreliable for daily driving punishment, and have a much shorter lifespan before needing to be torn out and rebuilt. Nothing against them as an engine. But id like to know my car is A: going to start everyday,
B: that I don't have to baby it and be aware of the weather and/or driving conditions to keep it going, and
C: that I wont accidentally blow something like an apex seal etc just by driving it like it was intended.
However in a race car id run the hell out of one.

There is soooo much negative bullshit in this thread from ignorant honda people it's astounding.
FrodoGT and omgwtfbbq please do a little research before stating your "opinions".
OP do a little research on www.rx8club.com and i'm sure there are several S2000 sites out there as well.
Go to Carmax or something and test drive both and then make a decision
there is ton of aftermarket parts for both cars.
The RX-8 will be harder to get more power out the engine without spending money on FI.
Both cars have reliabilty issues.

I try to test drive them but for some reason they say we don't let people test drive our cars. Oh and whoever was talking bad about the rotary I think it was frodo I did my research the rotary loves to be run hard and be taken to redline doing this will prevent blowing apex seals plus mixing 2stoke oil in the gas helps too. And FYI that pushing can be taken care of by a little alignment which is what I do. Plus in auto x the rx8 would only have to get into second gear where the s2 would prob.have to go into 3rd. All it takes for a rx8 to take a stock s2 is an intake and exhaust and a highflow cat or testpipe
How much auto-x experience do you have?

I like the RX-8, but after driving around B's S2000 I would say that the S2000 is the better choice. If you do get an S2000 try and pick up a 01 or an 02, as those are the years that had the glass rear window and the 2.0L engine (the newer engine does not rev as high and is not as fun to drive). That being said, the S2000 is a roadster, I would rock an RX-8 if I needed it as a DD or god forbid I need to stick a baby seat in something.
