I didn't come into this thread to talk shit or to be an ass I'm not that kind of guy but with the BULLSHIT that your telling him about a rotary I had to say something.
As far as putting in a better engine in his car I would say that if it's a 1.8L then to swap in a engine from a 323 gtx or Boost it.If it's a 2.0 then just build and boost that also, whatever floats his boat......But, putting in a rotary come-on man??
werd, i hate when people hear i drive a mazda, they ask me "is it a rotary?". Well if you wanna go fast, i'm sorry but your going no where fast with that protege. You can boost it and make like 160whp if your LUCKY. I'd sell it, buy a first gen protege lx and turbo that and you'll have 250whp easily on like 15psi, give or take. Maybe you could swap a first gen bp into it and i'd be willing to help you. I'm sure its possible, atleast way more feasible than a fucking rotary. Think about it man. []Deace

BTW didn't you run one of them slow protege's not to long ago?

160hp if your LUCKY...lol... please stop talking about something you don't know about.MSP's make very close to that stock at the wheel's 150hp 150tq on the little t25 on mazda's shitty ass tune so yeah......
Edit* Your 2000 protege has, a 1.6L engine code ZM-DE or a 1.8L engine code FP-DE I think....I really don't know any thing about your engine or how strong or weak it may be.Here is a little 1.6L that I found that is making some respectable number's if that is what you have then, that would make for one hell of a fun car ->http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97197
Here is another site that you may find helpful http://web2.airmail.net/theman/protegefaq/
Also you can check out www.msprotege.com and I'm sure someone there will be able to help you out.

Good luck with it!
Mazda Speed Protege's are just the stock motor with a Greddy kit anyways, so it's best to built up a stock motor that will actually hold some boost
The 2.3 and the protege's do not share the same transmission. It will probably fit, but you will need to swap over the engine tranny/ecu.
