Default 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata is Turbo

The new Mazdaspeed Miata is coming with a 1.8 turbo charged engine with a 6 speed manual. The car weights in @ 2500 and has 178hp and 166 TQ, and if this engine is still bullet proof, then I would expect to see cars running around town with 300 plus HP daily drivers.

Its nice to see Mazda making cars that are designed to be tweaked, that 6 speed has to be good for more than 200 hp, I would think .

what did they do? is that SRT-4's drivetrain one you would consider stout? I have much respect for that car but I feel very uncomfortable about the reliability factor. the mazda engine is supposedly the same (bulletproof) one referred to above.

yeah and SRT-4's come stock with, forged piston's/rod's now why is it that, they can handle 400-500hp on the stock bottom end

Mazda said that the MSmiata has "shot-peened gears for improved durability"

i wish, the bean counter's at mazda would have thought about that and maybe some, forged goodie's when they made the MSP

Well since the protege is a 2.0L and the Mazdaspeed miata is a 1.8L I dont think they are the same.

Neither one of them are built for boost. Mazda has never been about big power they are just want to build all around good cars. The mazdaspeed protege was a good car for 20k and I'm sure the mazdaspeed miata is and excellent car for what they intended it to be.

these are great cars to boost up.

Have you ever heard of " Flyin Miata" and Corky Bell?

He has dyno charts and kits up on his site, that read over 300 plus HP to the wheels, and that translaters to over 400 plus HP @ the crank. very impressive, for only 2500 lbs.RWD 6 speed.

I have 2.5 litre 4 Turbo right around 380 hp @ the wheels

Its very fast though, and so should this new car with a little tweakin.

I was not aware corkey was into mazdas. I only know his name because of maximum boost.

They are not great cars for forced induction. A good stock set up will include some decent pistons rods. Granted 300whp is ok, but looking back on the cars built for boost can hold 450whp, they are still a long way off from the competition.
WTF, type of drive train loss do you figure? like 35%? Queer, my awd dosent even suck up anything around 35%? Its more like 360 crank hp at the most.

another thing, to call a car "Great to boost" it also needs to include a tranny that will support over 200hp and some rods that will hold over 12psi (mazdaspeed protege)

SRT4's dont have forge, they are high temp cast, same as 4G63, same as Supra's, same as SR20's
