89 CRX question...please help me out...
Im looking to get an 89 crx. The one i am looking at is awesome, 2 owner car, never wrecked, perfect clean interior, 91 si front, a couple tasteful jdm goodies, 89 si wheels, a nice drop, cold ac, power steering etc etc. It has a d15b2 short block with a d16z6 head, aem cam (mild), cam gear, port polish head, dc sport header, full exhaust, (clean, quiet) aem cold air intake, and a factory rebuild on the longblock.
What im wondering though, is he said it needs tuned. He said it had a vafc, and that it was tuned on that. But he said someone broke into the car and stole the vafc. He also said it has a stock ecu. I cant really understand how he wired the car, he said a shop did it so it can use vtec from the vafc, but still with the stock ecu. hat i would like is to use an ecu from phearable, but i dont want to have to pay for the car to be on a dyno, money is a little tight right now.
What would i have to do for vtec to work right on the car? Does it sound right that it is using a vafc for a tune?

Like 88_Hatchy said, if money is tight, get something that is not molested. Now, if you really like the car, All you should need is a OBD-0 to OBD-1 adapter and a P28 ECU. You will have to run 3 wires from the ECU for VTEC to work properly. Now, since the car has some head work, you will have to tune it down the road.
Someone elses project can be a nightmare so if you don't have the Time to deal with it then don't. Money is the second issue. There could be more that he isn't telling you and if you don't know what you are looking for ...

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
