turning question...no not a n00b question
Seriously im not asking how to turn here.when im a full head of speed making a turn...i have the tendency to get rather low....or so it seems. i look it my front tire and yeah there is a small amount of chicken strip there. i look at my rear...and there is nothing...looking like im maximizing the use on the tire...here is the deal...it does not feel very stable at high end cornering in the rear.
im running the Basic pilot powers...the thing is...i can judge how close i am to the ground...and it seems like i have a little more room for lean so i can push through the turn a little faster. but im highly afraid im just going to go into that turn...get in way to low...and out comes the bike.
is this going to be one of those issues where i suck it up and go for it...and it will go lower than previously though?
To answer qeuestions yes im riding easily within my limits and i know there is room for growth...just curious as to of what you all thought of it.
also i have heard of different tire combinations for the rear to maximize your lean angle
im running the stock 180/55/17 on the rear...
basically what im leaning to is sugestions towards what i should do to maximize my lean angle so i can better myself on the "track"
also while we are ont he subject i know its a general idea...but how do you turn?
not asking how do you turn as in i dont know how to..but rather what is the technique you personally use to carve through the twisties...
for me i slide a cheek off the seat and lean like a mother through the turn using my weight and the bikes weight...while pressing down on the handle bars on the side in which im turning.
rep is given for any serious help lol
im pretty sure you can ride on the EDGE of the tire, ive seen guys' tires where the edge looked like an eraser if you know what i mean. you still have the peg feelers right? If i recall the peg feelers are you warning that you are approaching the limit of lean angle just before your bike says F U and leaves you playing slip 'n slide down the road.
You have the right idea, but you dont neccesarily have the right lines or the right speed. Ride with people faster then you who have proper form and lines. That will make you faster. Lean angle will come with speed.

Do you really have to start a thread every time you go on a ride and see a guy with no helmet on?
Does it affect you that much that some random guy 1500 miles away went and paid his own money for a 1000?
Do we really have to fight over who uses the back brake or not?
Do you have to argue over stupid pointless shit on the Internet?

First set the bikes suspension up properly!! There should be about 1" to 1 1/4" sag when you sit on the seat(measure a point on the rear of bike to axle then do it with you on bike) Then adjust preload and rebound till it feels more comfortable you'll be leaning in with out trying harder it will just feel better.
you shouldnt be worrying about lean angle on the streets!!! you never know what lies ahead of you in a turn, sand, rocks, leaves, another car, ect.
if you really want to test your limits take it a track.
tire: a 180 tire is plenty. its hard to explain on the internet, but a racer's chicken strip is different tha a street rider's. street riders look at how much tire is (is not) scuffed, where a racer looks to see where you is actually rolling on the throttle while lean'd over (someone else decribed it as looking like an eraser).
alot of sv riders still use a 160 rear tire at the track and dont have any problems
body position: (not directly adressing you casue I have never ridden with ya) you need to learn body position, you will start to see that you are actually pushing the bike more upright to keep a larger contact patch while at full lean. once you learn body position you can use your knee as a gauge of how far over you really are

I'm so far behind, I think I'm first
need tires (take offs)? PM me
need a deal on a track day? PM me
disclaimer: I sell used tires (take-offs), these tires have been used at Jennings, Homestead, etc. (road courses for those that dont know) therefor these tires are more used up on the sides than in the middle,
