NEED HELP! My DD wont start, just shut off while driving.

Default NEED HELP! My DD wont start, just shut off while driving.

I was leaving my girlfriends house last night, started the car, warmed it for 30 seconds and left. Didn't drive hard on it or anything. Got onto the main road 1/4 mile away, was halfway though second gear and the car just completely lost power, sounded like a VW beetle. Instantly lost power, not drivable at all just shut down. Pulled over and the car would not even turn over. Had a friend hook up jumper cables, and found out the it DOES turn over. I was low on fuel so I put a gallon in it, and it still wont run right.

In order to even get the car to start, I have to floor the pedal, and it revs to between 300-500rmp and anything less it dies. Almost like its only running on 2 cylinders or something.

I didn't have time to check much out because I was without a jacket and it was 10shared_pm. All the plug wires were snug, the marks on the cam gears look to be lined up correctly on the top end. All the injector clips were snug. It has oil in it, little low but its in there, no shavings. Not smoke or anything from the oil cap.

Would a distrubutor just die?? I need to do a compression test im sure.

What could this posibly be? To just instantly loose power? What should I start with first or does this sound catastrophic?? I am willing to pay anyone either in person or paypal to help give me correct advice on diagnosing the problem.

Do you have spark? If so do you have fuel?

Not sure on spark or fuel. It was late and I couldn't really work on it. Also thinking of renting a fuel pressure tester.

I can test spark and fuel hopefully tomorrow. I need this car running asap.

To see if timing jumped would I just bring #1 to tdc on compression stroke and make sure both lines on the cam gears are lined up correct?

Yep number one cylinder all the way to the top and both gears should point straight up, but you would have to jump some serious timing for car to not start at all, which makes me believe something in distributer went out, check for spark if nothing then check your cap and rotor if both are fine check for power to the coil pack inside

I had thought the dizzy as well. Hopefully. How much of a jump would it take to hit a valve to piston??

Where could a OBD2 dizzy be found on the cheap. Autozone wants $400. Also willing to pay someone $20 or so to test theirs out to see if it even starts in dade city.

Also it did start, but it had to be floored and it reved between 300-500rshared_pm.

Take the distributor cap off your rotor sounds like it came loose of off

Like they say its probably something with the dizzy. I'm not 100% but I think you can use and obdII b series dizzy i think with vtec your gunna have to check that. Get back to us with the spark and fuel answers.

Yeah sometimes the rotor will loosen up and sometimes fall off but if that happens the car wont get spark so wont start. So if you where driving and the car died you need to check your fuel pump. and/or our injector resistor box. But if you have DPFI those injectors suck ass and go bad alllll the time.

Haven't had time to even look at it yet, I will be cheking it out a little tomorrow when I get home at 7.

Once I get this all sorted out, I will send a few bucks to those who helped me figure it out.
