92 accord D4 light flashing...need help!!!
ok well i got a 92 accord with a F22A1 motor with a MP1A auto tranny, which i believe is a prelude transmission. well when i first got the car it ran fine..then the water pump went out so i had it replaced by a local mechanic. now when i drive it it will not down shift. if im just driving goin 40mph or so and floor it, it just slowly accerlates, kinda like if you put a Stick shift in 5 th goin 40mph and floor it. also from a stop if i floor it it just acts like im barly givin it gas and just shifts like normal, only goin to 3000rshared_pm or so and shifting. if i manualy shift it it will work fine. the D4 light has blinked since i got it and it shifted fine until i got the water pump changed. also kinda has slight lag when first taking off in first. i was told the D4 light blinks cause the different tranny bein in the car. any ideas????

ya see i thought that too......then i heard all this stuff bout it could be some sensor or its the main relay........can the timing be fixed without taking the timing belt back off??

ummm not really. i have seen it quite a few times and most of the time what your describing is what happens. If the timing is incorrect the car is unable to advance the timing properly causing no downshift and lack of power

ya i am thinking this as well......i just bought a new main relay and put it in and no change...it also idles really low at bout 200 RPM and i have adjusted it a few times back up to 900-1000 RPM and it always goes back to around 200 RPM

time to tear it apart. if and when you do this it will not fix the flashing d4 light. just the lack of power. the flashing d4 light means there is a problem with the trans itself. could be an internal problem or it may be a bad psi switch.

well i was told it blinks because it has a MP1A tranny in it, which i believe is a prelude tranny....so the ECU reads an error when there's not...the light was blinking when i first got the car. it only starting acting like this when i got the water pump replaced. i think it has to be a timing issue, and by tear it apart do you mean a rebuild?

no not at all. I mean time to take the timing belt off and fix it.
as far as the trans goes that may be the case. I am not to familiar with that transmission. If it drove fine before then i would say dont worry about it. you definitely need to get the other issue fixed as soon as possible. Its not very good to be driving around with the timing belt off some teeth
