Default Crx mini me or full d16y8

Alright so I have a fresh d15b2 and a d16y8. I'm deciding whether to go the mini me route, or just swap the whole y8 in? I plan on boosting either setup, which block holds up under boost better? Maybe someone can chime in that have run a mini me and d16, any feedback or tips are appreciated.

Neither one holds up better under boost. The d15 has toothpick rods (moreso than a d16) and the y8 has a terrible oiling system as compared to the 88-95 blocks. IF the y8 doesnt spin a bearing itll make more power, but its almost guaranteed to take out the bottom end if you dont port/shim the oil pump at a minimum. On top of the y8 head having a fucked up cam timing setup.

Find yourself an older block and be happier.

So would I be better off keeping the y8 na maybe itb and mild compression? Obviously I won't pull the same power figures, but I just want something that's going to last.. how well does a zc bottom end take boost?

The ZC takes boost better than the Y8, you'll always be disappointed with an NA d-series. Even if you keep the Y8, porting/shimming the oil pump isn't hard, you just need a restrictor so you don't blow your turbo seals with 349672psi of oil pressure at idle

Thanks for the replies. if I picked up some turbo internals and ported the oil pump while tuned at 6 or 7 lbs, would that be a safe setup or am I better off going zc bottom end?

The general consensus is as long as you are running a good tune on a healthy engine you're fine around 220-240hp before the stock rods let go. So, if by "turbo internals" you mean rods and pistons, you'll be fine for pretty much as much horsepower and $$ you want to throw at it. The cost balloons from there, soon you'll need a fuel pump, head studs, MAP sensor, injectors....yadda yadda yadda. Hit google up for D-series specific sites to do your research.

check d-series.org for your info. the y8 oiling systems sucks because the oil pumps have less flow/ pressure and the rods only have one oil galley. im boosting my y8 for almost a year now at 9.5 lbs no issues. just dont rev to high and keep oil level in check with a good tune. you should do okay

Nice, I'll register over there. So can I get more info on your build? Are you running stock internals?
