crank pulley cracked... unsafe?

A lot of people either install a junkyard used pulley or a new one from the A-parts store. Does Napa sell them? What about a-Zone/Advance?-Bob

You know I took a look at it again today, guess I didnt realize that piece is rubber? Atleast it felt a little squishy, could it be just a crack from drying out? On actual metal the only crack is where its a little indented on the outter most part.

It might be the way it was made.

If it truely is a crack, some people get a spare which they carry with them for when it comes apart. The last one I had come apart....belts came off, car was undriveable....hassle to get a pulley from a-parts store......and I definitely heard it when it was tossed onto the pavement....-Bob

I'm wondering if maybe it was always there but I didnt really look at it closely? IDK it looks like just a crack in the rummber and not the actualy metal part of the crank. Then again how far does the rubber piece go?

my harmonic balancer is cracked around where it holds the belt in and i havent had any problems even in high rshared_pm. but replacing soon.

Rubber piece goes all the way through.......a crank pulley is essentially an inner sleeve, then a thin layer of rubber, then an outer sleeve. The rubber absorbs vibrations from the heavy part of the crank.

It's possible that you don't have a crack.-Bob
