wabbling crank pulley?
i don't usually start help threads, im usually the one giving advice!
almost forgot, its a 95 eg 4 door. d15b7 im sure...
but the prob is,the crank pulley is wobbling about 3 mm every time it goes around (which seems to be pretty common from all the searching i have done so far) it seems like someone just did the timing belt and it feels a tooth off cause its slow as fuck and i can tell when its a tooth off and all the cover bolts look fresh like someone just did it....
but anyways, its too late now to take video of it so i prob will tomorrow before i tear it all apart...im just looking for ideas right now, if anyone has seen this..heres what i got so far from not taking it apart yet
1) maybe someone installed it crooked and cranked the bolt down with it crooked
2)somethings wrong with the woodruff key, like installed wrong
3)the worst case like i have seen before, it could have chipped the crank or something like that...(hopefully not)
but idk...but i have seen this a lot and will let you guys know what happens when i tear it all down tomorrow and maybe we can all learn something from it! lol but i dont want her driving it anymore with it like that and making shit worse with the kids being in the car. so that's the first order of business among a lot of other bullshit things that were all ghetto half assed done...
but i will be updating this tomorrow with pics and prob vids before and after and hopefully its not too fucked up..
also, the ac belt is not tight enough at all either, and ive seen them wobble a little if the belts are pulling it too tight in certain directions...but it needs all new belts anyways so while i have them all off, im gonna go ahead and tear all the crank pulley bolt and all the shit behind it and see whats up and ill keep you guys updated....maybe i can help someone else..
but if anyone has any input (positive is always welcomed!
) like shit i could miss or shit to look out for...
thanks guy....sorry for the long read, just wanted to make sure i covered everything thoroughly.....but ill let you know what happens tomorrow!
thanks fellas!

Hopefully they didn't damage the crank but I would definitely say get a new pulley. It should not wobble even with the a/c belt not on there perfectly tight. There is no way for it to have been installed crooked.
aaaaaaaaaaa D series and crank pulleys.. man my z6 has spit out its crank pulley so many times i lost count! the bolt just backs out and the pulley just drops.. my friend had the same problem and a stupid mechanic instead of putting some locktite on it, he put a bigger bolt that was not honda oem and fucked it up.. the pulley started wobbling and making a funny noice till it came off again.. now the crank was bad at this point but he needed a quick fix so we went to honda, bought a stock bolt put a bunch of red locktite allover the hole and the bolt and impacted it in, that way it stayed on and never came off again.. even do the pulley after that always wobbled a bit, it worked.. i put locktite on mine the last time it came off and it worked wonders! the engine blew and the pulley still solid.. hope this helps..
take the pulley out, inspected if there is nothing wrong buy a new bold (4$ @ honda) buy some locktite put some and impact it in.. and i promise no matter how hard u run ur car it wont come off.. only way to get it out is with a air wrench..

^the bolts/washe comes with it is about 10$...but yeah your problem is the keyway i hope wth your prully coming off so much it did not crack or chip off the crank...the locktite does work i myself love red...and the more wobble it has the more damage your doing to your motor bearings and even the alt/ps on start up you might even start getting the belt to sqeek

thanks for the reply fellas, here we go, let me clear a couple more things up real quick...
well it hasn't fallen off yet and the bolt is tight, as tight as i could check it with the wheel on and not holding the engine with my crank pulley holder. i will be doing that today though. whats the chances of a pulley of that size "bending" i guess....
btw... Ive worked in shops for about 6 or 7 years, i got thousands in tools, im not saying i know everything and im not a master tech (only got certs in a few things) or anything just wanted to give you guys some background real quick.
Ive changed prob over 50,60 timing belts, dual cams, single cams. Ive come across chipped key-ways and had to replace engines about 4 times, had engines come in (i have no idea how) running with no key-way at all with the pulley just spinning around the crank. lol so Ive seen a lot of things happen. the car runs fine, besides revving up slow and doing the normal shit that happens when its off a tooth. but that will be fixed in a couple hours when i get to my shop and get all my timing belt tools and random shit im going to need out of my box. i also have a few extra crank pulley bolts in there. (don't ask how because im not sure lol) most are off dual cams though but, if it does need one, I'll just go to honda and grab one. honda is like 3 blocks from my house.
I'll keep you guys updated. I'll prob take some vids real quick before i leave so you guys have something cool to look at while im gone getting my tools way out in BFE lol then you guys can tell me what you think...because i know how much everyone looooves seeing pics and videos of other peoples misery! lol but who doesn't right!
also, not making any noise either, maybe the sight rubbing of the timing cover, obviously because its fucking wobbling! lol but im going to take some vids right now and ill post them in a few,

well my piece of shit cam couldn't keep up so it looks like its wobbling in slow mo and barely even moving but its shaking like a bitch, exactly like someone ran the bolt down with the pulley on crooked or some shit....so these vids don't exactly help too much but oh well....
but its prob almost a half inch every revolution when it comes around....i swear if this dumb ass is stupid enough to let a car leave with it a tooth off then im not putting anything past him when it comes to this crank pulley bolt ordeal..
but, im going to get my tools and shit and ill keep you guys posted, maybe help someone else out in the future because i know first hand how common this problem is...and Ive seen so many diff problems. maybe ill come up with a totally new one! fuck, im not looking forward to this, at all....

alright fellas, finally about to get started on it. (had to finish this riced out gsxr that took me all fucking day de-ricing it. long story lol) but i will post results in a little bit. as long as the "bitch bolt" don't give me too much trouble....but i made my own tool for it and it works awesome and cost me about $1.35 to make...ive used it about 3 or 4 times already and still going strong over a year later! lol
eventually im just going to take that fitting over to my buddies fab shop and weld it to a peice of 1/4 inch plate or something. that way i wont have fuck with trying to get the wrench to grab and hold. just let it bottom out and start breaking tools trying to get the bolt off!! lol actually i could prob start making these and selling them. i know a lot of people on here (and everywhere for that matter) has been through this bullshit and all the tools they sell are like 80 to 240...fuck that. but ive seen, i think, 4 or 5 diff versions of the actual tool that i didnt even know about....
here, this isnt my exact one, but its where i got the idea from. same exact thing though...

pizza is here....came in to eat...ill post pics in a little bit.
HEADS UP FELLAS!
DON'T USE PHOTO BUCKET! ITS FULL OF FUCKING VIRUSES! ITS KILLED 2 OF MY COMPUTERS ALREADY.(i got them cleared up but still a pain in the ass over some bullshit) idk wtf is up with them but something is fucked. . its ok to look at shit but as soon as you upload something, you just opened up your computers asshole for a virus ass rape....it happened right after that first video finished uploading. got a bunch of pop up bullshit trying to get me to buy anti virus bullshit.
well that's what i do on manual trannies a lot also but the last 3 timing belt jobs ive done were single cam automatics so that "trick" wont work on those lol trust me, ive tried. that's what made me get all creative with my ghetto tool lol
but that's what i always do on my teg. i did my timing belt and then, like a dumb ass cheaped out and didn't do the water pump cause it looked good. so of course, 2 months later the water pump goes! lol so every time i have to do mine, i prefer to use a 3/8 drive 6 inch extension. i also have a toda lightened flywheel and it still holds every time and it bottoms out on a thick ass part of the block so i don't have to worry about anything cracking or breaking. as a matter of fact, i just wrecked my teg a month ago and some peices from my headlight got down in the lower timing cover and jammed the belt and broke it so actually i JUST used that trick 4 days ago lol
but still good advice to anyone trying to get the "bitch bolt" out...its funny honda has their own terms for shit. like im pretty sure everyone on here knows about "the bitch pin" but if you said it to someone that's not a tech or a honda guy, they wouldn't know
:edit: also, ive always had lightened flywheels and i cant remember how big the holes are on stock flywheels but after snapping that first screwdriver using that trick, i said fuck that and always use at least a 3/8 drive extension or something a lot thicker than a tiny screw driver....but if a stock flywheel has big enough holes to accept a 3/8 extension, i would def go with that.... (just my opinion, and im sure someone on here knows better, like always !
) just sharing my experience, that's all. just like this fucking pulley bullshit
