like i said...the plot thickens...lol if i new pulley will fit over it like its supposed to nice and snug, im going to prob throw a new key in also and weld it all in and together.although this would last prob forever. but at least until my buddy gets one of his engines out of his few civic he has laying around and i might put another engine in it....but ill make it work and work right...

im also not worried about high rpm, its auto and the baby momma willl be driving it so it prob wont eve go over 3k rshared_pm lol

but all in all, i just needed to get a better idea of what im working with so i can start making calls and come up with some ideas for right now....i can have another engine installed in a day, as im sure most people on here can. but this ones runs flawless and just hit 100,000 miles...so either way, it will be worth fixing. my teg right now has a welded crank pulley bolt. the fucker kept coming off so i said fuck it and threw a couple tacs on there lol and its 5 spd and i spin it pretty high and i did that over 1 1/2 ago and no problems...

also the crank doesnt look ate up at all compared to the pulley. idk if i posted pics of the pulley yet, if i didnt i will in a few. it ate the pulley pretty bad but the crank looks fine...weird shit. just a harder steel, thats all

i already know the people are going to be all over my ass about welding a pulley or welding anything down there. yes, i know its wrong and ghetto, yes, im a cheap ass, yes, ive done this before and seen the results and none have returned...im also not saying i condone this action as a great fix. but if your in a pintch and cant find an engine or dont know how or dont feel like tearing your motor down to install a crank, it will get you by for a while...or prob until you dont even have the car anymore lol

so im already expecting the shit talkers, feel free to call me ghetto and its not the right way and so on and so on...im also a certified welder, i went to school for it. so if i do end up welding it, it will be done right.


but here you go! enjoy my pain and suffering and hopefully this doesnt happen to any of you guys!

looks a little worst then my friends crank.. but yep having the same problem.. anyways good luck keep us posted.. im damn glad i did the locktite fast cuz this is what would had happened to me... btw the crank pulley aparently is off a ek or late d16 the dude i sold a pulley to today has the same u have, with the 3 ribs and was on a ek..

and without a key?? how the hell!!...

i know! like where the fuck did it go?! but im sure they just didnt put one back in when they put it back together...im just wondering how the hell they made it get so bad in the first place....the bolt prob came loose and it wobbled around for a while and chewed up the inside of the pulley hole. good thing is though, as much as it looks like it spun around the crank, all the damage is to the pulley. the crank looks fine as far as spinning damage goes. the keyway is a whoooole nother story



but since the bottom end is fucked anyways, im going to try and grab my buddies miller mig welder tomorrow and a new pulley and key and hope for the best lol. but seriously, ive welded this exact same one on a kids eg civic 4 door, single came (exact same shit as mine) when i worked at tires plus. his bolt came loose and chewed everything up. so i told him he needed a new engine. well long story short, he didnt want to so i presented an option of welding a new pulley and key on and then smoothing the welds out a little and cranking the bolt back down. i warned him it may or may not work. but he said ok so i welded it all up and he drove it for 3 months before i quit there and then i seen him again about 2 years later, still driving it like that, thanking me and shit lol i was very suprised. cause he ran the shit out of this peice of shit 4 door automatic. like redline at every redlight and straight 2 1/2 inch exhaust with no muffler....god, that thing was fucking horrible.


but thats my little welding pulley story i thought i would share with everyone...yes, i know its ghetto. but at least i got a chance to test it out on someone elses car first!

i would do ur timing belt water pump and tensioner and then weld it.. just so u know those parts will last the rest of the life of the engine with no problems.. after u weld it then run the fuck out of it.. just my .2 cents..

oh yeah. most def. i think i even mentioned that a couple post ago that if i weld it, it getting

timing belt
water pump
tensioner

yeah, theres no way im welding it without at least replacing those. but i was a dumbass and welded the pulley on my ls in my teg i have now without changing the timing belt.. so of course, (whatever that law is called) "hat can go wrong, will go wrong" lol and my timing belt fucking breaks! lol but it wasnt too bad. just cut the welds off and ground them down. just took a little longer than if i didnt weld it, thats all. wasnt hell or anything. same with this pos. im not going to seam weld it or anything. just put some nice solid tacks or prob a tiny bead in 4 spots like an x pattern. then grind the faces of them down just enough so the bolt sits evenaly all the way around. then, worst case happens and the timing belt breaks or anything happens, i know i can still get it off. awesome thing about metal, you can make it do whatever you want! lol


but i'll keep you guys posted on the ghetto ride now that i can post pics again. thats also the new name of this shit box. "the ghetto ride" and if it doesnt work, then fuck it, ill quit being a cheap ass and throw a long block in there and be done. but its worth a shot and has worked before. if i didnt see it with my own eyes, i wouldnt have belived it, but it damn sure did so....maybe if theres some other people on here that are cheap asses and have this problem, they can give it a shot....

fuck, just realized, i gotta get a pulley tomorrow. i need to check my wtb thread. i think i found a guy in lakeland. little bit of a hike but the welder is in plant city anyways so fuck it. hopefully he will be available tomorrow unless i can find one closer to tampa.

update


dont feel like re welding the crank and grinding it down perfect while its still in the car so i picked up another d15 for super cheap and the old ones ready to come out right now and the new one should be in tonight. it looks like its got really low miles and been taken care of. and i got it from one of my really good friends so its all good. i heard it run last year before he took it out.


but i will be welding the crank and making a new key way and doing everything the right way. and since it will be out of the car when i do it, i will have so much more access to get grinders and cutters in there and do a much better job. when im done you wont ever be able to tell anything ever happened. i'll post pics of everything when im done. out of all the searching Ive done for hours, you guys wouldn't believe how common this problem is on hondas. and i guess, from what ive read, it happens a lot more to prelude owners for some reason.

but after this motor is in and running and i get all the acc. shit bolted back up like a/c comp.,power steering shit,axles. all that good stuff then i can focus on fixing that crank and maybe helping someone else fix theirs if their brave enough lol
