just get a ls for now...be happy with the torque and the extra ponies. then get a vtec head later on when you have funds along with some p30 pistons, good header, cams, good exhaust. wait a little more then get some cam gears and in mani and throttle body (about 65mm no bigger) and you will be happy.. when you save some more you can get a close geared b-16 tranny and you will see how the car will scrape.

1. you have a EX if its the factory motor which is the D16Z6 then you do have VTEC.
2. Its slow cause its a small motor.
3. Vtec isn't some magical go fast feature.
4. Buy a H22 longblock get a H2D kit have a beer.

look on the front of the motor where the engine meets the tranny and your engine code will be there (little flat square part), just so you'll know for sure what u have.
