y8 has a better cam .2 higher compression better intake mani better combustion chamber design. To put it on your block it bolts right on if you use the y8 gasket with that head youll end up with 9.6:1. Youll have to use your distributor. It doesnt bolt right up. Youll have to cut one of your distributor legs to get it on there which isnt a problem distributor will still work just fine. Use your current inejectors. Everything else plugs right in youll have to cap off one vacumn nozzle on the intake manifold turn the throttle bracket upside down or else your current cable wont work. There isnt a place to mount your EVAP so youll just have to zip tie it to the firewall its not a big deal youll need to mount your intake air temp sensor onto your intake pipe or you can drill 3 holes in the y8 manifold and it will go in. Getting the head on is the easy part the using that manifold causes you to need to do a lot of little things that I just mentioned. Use your z6 throttle body and sensors. Use the y8 fuel rail on the y8 manifold.

its hard to say if its worth it or not yeah the y8 has 2 more hp than the z6 but I wonder how much of that is attributed to the addition of obd2 if you do what I said then youll be running obd1 obviously. Also even though its only a 2 hp difference that is only peak and what the hp and torque curves are doing before the peak is also very important to compare however I havent compared to stock for stock z6 vs. y8 dyno graphs so its hard to say. Id heard a lot of good things from people doing this head swap from a z6. Most of the stuff you need to do is associated with the y8 intake manifold therefore if you decide to use the stock z6 manifold it would be much easier. Hacking the dist leg isnt hard to do with a dremel. If you run accross a really good deal on a y8 head Id do it. As soon as my tax return gets here Im gonna try to pick up one of those heads put teh zex cam in there and sell my head and hopefully break even.
