ok thanks john.. Another question is all the measureing tools to check the bore and things like that can I get them like at auto zone or from where??? Also the engine I want to put together is a ls so I got the 94 integra manuel.. So if I want to put together a b16 I have to look up the torque specks and clearneces for the b16 I can not use the ones off the ls or gsr correct???

The manual tells you everything you need to rebuild a factory motor.

When using aftermarket components, you should use a bore gauge, caliper, feeler gauges etc.

I have seen plenty of people assemble motors by relying on a machine shop to set their piston/wall clearances, then use plastigauge & feeler gauges for rings/bearings.

You won't find the instruments you need at Autozone. Machinist supply outlet or ordering online is your best bet. You can get some good deals on ebay, but you have to know what you are looking for.

Also, regarding ring gap, let your cylinder bores tell you by fitting the rings. It's that simple. You will find the method for checking this in your service manual.

oo ok thanks... So can I use the specs to put together a ls or gsr on a b16? Or are they diffrent specs???

it will put the hugest smile on your face ... it did on mine after the one David taught me to build started up.

get the manuals, read through them, learn about how each part your are rebuilding affects the engine performance on how it works together with the other parts of the engine.

the rings on the piston must be positioned in a certain way.

the order, the amount and the times you torque down bolts like rod bolts and head bolts are important.

finding out with lubricants to use is important and there is way more.

it's really a great experience. go in with the attitude that it will start and it will run. know there may be hiccups and that you will fix them. and if you do something stupid, it gives you a great garage story to laugh about later on.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
