Default engine building

Well guys I wanna go and put together my first engine... This isn't an engine that I am counting on so if I mess up its not a big deal. I just wanna put 1 together and learn as I go. So a couple questions I have as of now is how do I chech for bearing clearence? What tools do I need to check that? What is the right way to put the pistons back in the block? And how do I gap the piston rings on. This is gonna be a ls motor with all ls internals. And like I stated I just wanna learn how to put an engine together. And if in the end it runs lol well then that's a plus.

To measure your parts yourself the tool list:
1-2" micrometer with .0001 resolution
2-3" micrometer with .0001 resolution
3-4" dial bore gage with .0001 resolution or manual bore gage with a 3-4" micrometer.
a feeler gage
green plastigage or better the real stuff spelled plastigauge (harder to find)

if you don't want to measure anything, you can just get by with the plastigage.

piston size, bore size to make sure the walls are perfect, rod journal main size to make sure it has not been cut or out of spec.and the plastigage is a must for bearing and Makeing sure your valves dont hit your piston if building a interference motor. and the feeler gag. is to make sure all your valves are adjusted right
