if you a have a solenoid off the motor of the crx you should be able to stick it on the d and see if it engages. not to leave on perm just to check

Check for continuity from the ecu to the solenoid on the vtec solenoid pin.

Check the oms from the ecu to the solenoid ? does it mean anything that i hard wiredthe vtec solenoid and it still didnt work? it clicks but when driven it does not engage? could it just be the gasket? thanks

No, it would not be the gasket. If the solenoid is clicking it sounds like it is more then likely working.

The fact that the vehicle is throwing a code 21 usually means there is not a proper connection between the ecu and the solenoid.

Check the continuity (i.e. see if there is a connection).

But should it have worked when I wired it up to the batt and a switch, I disco it from the ECU.

It does have a P28 ECU, should I check A4 pin to see if there is a wire there? And if so should it be the Green with yellow strip?

I read the wire diagram on your site and mine is a 1992 so the vtec wire should already be there at the shock tower and running to the ecu. That was good info on your site thank you. Now I just need to see what is going on from there to the vtec solenoid. A tec from Honda said, it could be the gasket screen being clogged. I took it off and it does need to be replaced.
