well to start out your main problem is you are running a DOHC ecu on a SOHC, that could have something to do with it.

You need to run a p28 with a obd1 conversion harness and a obd1 dizzy

If youre throwing a knock sensor code your ecu might not even allow VTEC to engage, or it could just be in limp mode. The Knock sensor is pretty important.

im pretty sure that on the obd0 vtec ecu's when knock sensor isnt working vtec doesnt enguge.

Vtec needs 3 things to enguage on a UNMODIFIED ECU,

1.Oil pressure
2. Be at proper engine tempature
3. Over 5mph

The kid Needs to get the proper Stuff first then diagnose the proplem.

To run this setup proply being that it is a single cam he needs the fallowing.

1. CHipped p28 , chip out misc stuff.
2 Obd 0-1 conversion ecu harness
3. Obd1 vtec dizzy

supporting obd1 hardware.

Ya bud, your running the wrong setup, first problem is you need to convert to OBD1, i dont know why you would want to take a good motor like the Z6 which is OBD1 and go backwards and use OBD0.Then get a P28 ecu(chipped or not, John Vega at Phearable.net sells them prechipped for $175 and it will be tuned by him), and buy the OBD0--OBD1 conversion harness kit from John Vega, and a Vtec OBD1 dist.
A little tiny oil leak is not goin to make it not work, all hondas leak a little bit of oil.Do all that above and everything will work.

amen to that! and if you get all this n it still doenst work, id check ur timing, cap, rotor, wires, and c if anything else is throwin a code. but everything else has pretty much already been stated. convert to obd1, get the hard ware needed, n run the right ecu. keep ur oil level up n make sure ur speedo is workin n ur not throwin any more codes.
