h23 vs h22
+1 I'm in the same boat. you can get the weight down to about 2500lb at the extreme. The only real weight reduction that I've done was my balance shaft elimination kit, the AEM pullies and the 7lb flywheel.
1992-2001 Honda Prelude Weight Reductions
realistically if you like the car because its a fun car to drive and it appeals to you, go for it just know at some point down the road your going to have to add some power to it when it comes to whoopin on some H22 hatches. I personally have a ton on money in my Lude and love it. The car has the H22 that many envy in a body style that is one of the few "muscular" styling cues to it out side of other well to do Honda sports cars. After all for its time the Prelude was as good as it got for a Honda sports car shy of an NSX and up until S2k when it made its Debut out in 2000. Argueablely the Civic Si but really the civic doesn't count for the reason that it's just a rebadged economy car, no offense. The reasoning behind that statement is that Honda engineered the prelude from the ground up, its sheetmetal isn't shared anywhere else in the honda family nor will you find a Prelude in four door. Best of all when you see a Prelude from across the parking lot you know imediately that, Yes, infact that is a Prelude. In the Civic's case the general silloutte is the same and you'd have to wander over across this parking lot only to find that its a freakin DX with an lip kit.

If I may add it also depends on what you want to do with the motor. If you want to race then it makes more sense to go with an H22 and I mean all H22. I yanked the USDM H23a1 out of my lude and started looking for an H22 when I found an almost new JDM H23a3 for 1/2 the price an H22 would have cost me and it was the latest model of that motor. With the usual mods (plugs, wires,CAI etc.) its gives me plenty of performance for my needs (Non-Racing) and I am faster than most, not as fast as some. So I guess what I am saying is weigh your cost versus what you want out of your machine. And while we are on the subject of weight keep in mind that your are driving a car built like a TANK in my opinion. Thats why I like the Lude. The SOHC in the base 92-96 Prelude is in my opinion inadequate. A modded H23 will give you good overall performance and the H22-VTEC will give you even better performance. It all depends on your needs and your bank account balance HaHa.
