Thumbs up b16 block and tranny with gsr head?

some say its a poor mans type r because the gsr raises compression and some say it lowers compression but raises makes sense, just wondering what any other people think about that type of swap in an eg coupe what that would do and if it would be faster than a gsr. please post on thread i would like imput.

thanks, robert

Get ITR pistons and it will definitely raise compression.

i know thats what i thought as well but then if you think about it,the gsr head would raise compression, not drop it. the p72 head has smaller combustion chambers then the pr3 heads.

correct?

if you want power from your b16...bore it out to 82mm and use Ctr pistons and nice Jun/toda Cam with some itr inner valve springs and tt retainers

all that b16 head will do is give the air a straighet path to the chambers. the chambers are bigger tho so ur really getting a head that doesnt flow any better than a gsr (ive seen the charts theyre pretty similar) and lowers the compression by .2 or .3 (not entirely sure). the gsr cams also have an extra 3 degrees of duration (give or take). so itl help that b16 out.

to clarify....the poor mans r is a gsr block with type r pistons n a b16 head with the type r valve train. the only thing the b16 head has in common with the type r is the casting. other than that the type r head is superior in every way.

i dont think the gsr head on the b16 will make it faster than a gsr bc it still wont have the tq. hope this helped.
