certainly possible, but he said he had a "knocking noise", and bad ball joints usually just squeak to all hell when they're going out (i.e. torn boot and all the grease falls out)

are they knocking when you turn and/or going over "big" bumps? or is it all the time?
I had an 89 accord that the struts were going bad and when you turned it sounded like all kinds of shit was loose and banging around. The springs might have pissed off the struts.... maybe.....

old/worn shocks dont like big time lowering jobs.
from what ive found, anything more than 1.5" and you are gonna go thru shocks like a job... unless u have shocks made for it.
