Default LS/VTEC vs.B16a

i got a complete b16a im gonna drop it in a 91 LS, what you guys think is better for everyday driving? I'll be driving it at least 4-5 times a week, if i build up the block how reliable do you think it would be or should i just do up the b16?

If you do it right and care for it properly the ls/vtec will be just as reliable.. but just for a daily driver with a little power Id go witht the b16..

put the complete b16 in and work on building the LS block, that way you have a car and plenty of time to research your build.

arp doesnt make rods they make rod bolts.... depending what route your going and such i would first swap the b16 in your teg use that for a while til you save up money to get all brand new parts and get the block taken care of... if you do everything the right way the first time you wont have any problems. once you have the block done to your satisfaction you can rip that b16 out send the head to get redone to either a. factory spec or b. whatever you want done to it(seeing doing a head takes about only a few days of downtime) get everything buttoned up and you should be good... and word of advice, use a b16,gsr,or type r oil pump... that ls oil pump at high rpms wont do you any good past about 8k rpm... and dowl pins and the oil lines... its alot more then just swapping heads, but once you get into the research of it youll find out and see...

gl with whatever you do with it

To anwser you question, the LS/VTEC will be much more fun driving from stoplight to stoplight, due to the increased TQ, But the issue you will have is REV's the LS bottom-end was only ment to rev to 7.5K, the B16 head doesnt really start to flow untill 6-7K, If you do it the right way and build it the right way, using good parts. you can aleave this problem, but then you are still left with a bottom end that has a kinda shitty rod/stroke ratio, The b16 has the best, then the GSR and so on, The RS/ratio boils down to reving range, and no matter what you do, the LS will never be able to rev as high as say a B16/B17 or even the GSR, Not saying that people dont rev the piss out of there LS/VTEC's but thats were the reliability issues come into play. All in all the LS/VTEC is not the greatest motor to just throw togeather and expect big HP numbers, all it is, is a Poor mans type-R, without the reving range, But throw a turbo or nitrous on it and it becomes something totally diffrent, This is comming from a person who just sold a 425HP LS/VTEC 11:9:1 comp Nitrous feed motor to someone in GA. He loves the motor... It all boils down to what the car is needed for and what the future holds for it, Boost?? NA??? Nitrous?? Plan ahead.. Good luck..

yeah i had ls/vtec up north i was ready to drop it in but it was my only car at the time, so i decided to stay with just reg. ls for then, i also had the head port polished and shaved. but now im ready to just go ahead and do it due to the fact my wife just bought a four door teg.. well either motor i drop in the teg im gonna turbo it, cuz i know dropping a b16a i will loose a great amount of torque but at the same time gain HP, and i know the LS block isnt good for LS/VTEC unless built up correctly. i just dont wanna be dissapointed in the decision i make as of now, but "fathead" yes thats what i meant arp rob bolts i was typing fast, not reading over what i was typing, and i know its more than just changing heads ,had this same set-up before but let it go for then ,thanx for the post's.
