Talking turboing the SOHC

I have a stock JDM d15b Single cam VTEC. I already have a stage 3 clutch, and CM 8.5lb flywheel. I'm going to boost it using the stock internals. Im debating on wether or not to get the block gaurd. I have a hp goal of 220-250 max. i dont want to spend tons of money doing it. What kind of turbos, and set-ups are recomended. Ive already talked to "slammd sol" about his set-up so i know my power goals are not unrealistic. suggestions are appreciated, and price range helps. what are some turbos i should stay away from? thanks

u could do it on a greddy intercooled kit. If possible use the turbo from the dohc setup. either way I do not see why you couldnt make 200-220whp on that kit. If your going to pull the head to do a block guard then why not do pistons and rods. 300 for some eagles. Find some SRP's on ebay for 300-400 NIB. block guard only guards the top of the sleeves.
my brief 2 cents

WEll I would but the wholle reason for buying this motor was because the compression on these pistons are perfect. PLus This is going to be a daily driven car so I'm going to run 8-10lbs max boost. Depending on what turbo. Greddy kits are ass loads of money lol. I'm looking to build my own kit.

Look into Block Posting instead of a BlockGuard. The BG only holds the top of the cylinders, not the middle. Posting is the most effective way (IMO) to hold the sleeves still. You just have to find someone that knows what they are doing when posting the block.

if youre gonna block post the use a blockgaurd as well! cant hurt.

if you really wanna go homefrwon, you can honestly escape with a nice turbo kit for less than 800 bucks if you try hard.

ebay log manifold-$125.00
jonny racecar intercooler-150.00
t3 garret super 60 turbo-225.00
downpipe custom or bought-200.00
prelude injectors-----------50.00
charge piping and bends 100.00
------------------------------------------------
total $850.oo

all the other small stuff you can buy locally as well, usually cheaper. as far as prices, some are lower and some are higher, but you get the idea of what i mean.

check out www.homemadeturbo.com people on here are always selling HF manifolds with dsm turbos already flanged, and all kinds of shit.

you can do it, just gotta look, dont rush

agreed. make sure you buy good parts and get it tuned well. you shouldnt have any problems that way. but IMO, you wont be satisfied with 200 whp

once you get it on, you WILL want to go faster...trust me. so build a homemade kit, rebuild the block too, and have a mean ass SOHC. have fun.

yeh defs. even tho they have low 9.5:1 compression, they are still very weak. ive read alot of my honda/acura books and they say the only d-series rods that can actually handle over 200+hp w/ large amounts of boost are the d16a/zc rods....which you can get a whole block at cophers for $99. then take em somewhere to get cleaned up...shotpeend etc. and dont spend shit loads of money on aftermarket pistons/rods.
