Some cars dont make enough power to spin slicks, so they use drag radials, some cars make just enough power, to use either or and not really make a big difference... My car for example, has plenty of power to run on slicks, but also lacks just enough, that I can still cut some pretty decent times on drag radials, without breaking as much shit... Then you have some cars, that just make gobs of power, that cant efficiently put it to the ground on a radial tire... that is where the slick comes into play, and from there, its all about sizing...
hmmmmmm........what classes would those be? I know all the heads up classes I have ever heard of lets you run a certain size DR, or a certain size slick.

Classes for imports are much different... For example, the Turbo4 class has 2 different variations, one of which is for slick tire street cars, and the other is strictly for drag radial street cars... All cars must be street trim (legal to drive on the street), and the only difference between the 2 classes are the tires....

Check out that website if you would like to know more about what Im talking about, and also stop by and read the RULES section... This doesnt really go into the details of the Turbo4 street tire class, but it will give you the general idea.....

As a few peopl have said on here its NOT cut and dry, i myself have both slicks and drag radials, i always wanted to see how well my car did on "street tires" the way i would drive it around town, but was too busy with running my car on slicks getting my ETs where i wanted them, that i forgot about them and didnt bother. but i have seen some new light in a sense of pride in being able to run low ETs on street tires, and its kinda cool.

yeah sure some cars can run 11s on slick but can i do it on anything else, i dont know but im gonna give it a try

it depends on the car i guess i prefer street tires/ drag radials i drive around all the time on 555R's and since my car is a street car i like knowing that it runs the same at the strip as it does on the street

I'm sorry, but it DOES SEEM pretty cut and dry to me since all I run is slicks, and I don't drive my car on the street. For the people that do drive there cars on the street, I guess it ISN'T CUT AND DRY. My bad. I have always believed in trying to go as fast as I could so to me that means at the track ya run slicks because they are going to hook up the best. I'n my case anyway.

I will reply back to you because it seems like you are a domestic guy, my whole issue is when the idea was swung around that there were some hondas in the area that were making 500+ whp and were street cars. At first they called it a fable tale. Then once Ron(qitstrn) started going to the universal "track" and chris(insanecivicsedan) started racing at the universal "track" and talking smack. The whole idea turned from a fable tale, to "your street cars consist of slicks and roll racing only". I could go back to many threads and see where domestic people went from saying 500+whp street Hondas were fable, to now they say that roll racing is for people who can't set up their cars right. No matter what quick Hondas do, there will always be hate. So I decided at track day, I will see what I can do on my normal, non gaudy looking street tires from a dig. Needless to say, many of those haters now have shut up. As more and more hondas get their bugs worked out, more and more haters shut up. I just let my car do the talking.

FWD cars have serious issues with traction on higher hp cars and slicks are the only option to get all the power to the ground. I refuse to run stupid sized drag radials on my car.

im a fan of both. i use slicks to find out whats the best time i canget out of my car. as far as a street tire i always do a pas on street tires before i run on my slicks. every time i run i get asked what do you run. i always reply with what i run on street tires because there is no way your gonna hook up on the street, the way you do at the track. i use both im a fan of both but if i had to pick one i would lean towards the street side

not true, i have been known to run 18psi on the street on some 555r's when im done racing, i just go to the gas station and fill up

so im def. going to go with the street tires over slicks, they also give ur car more of that "im going to spin through 4th" look, and when ur on slicks, ppl think ur cars no joke..
