The ecu in your 97 civic hatch CAN'T be obd2b without a conversion harness.

ok thanks for the help mtber. but i dont understand why the gsr ecu wouldnt work when we tried it if they were the same obd

If they are the same obd series ALL THE PLUGS would plug in properly into the ecu.

The vehicle may not run stable due to the fact that it may throw codes due to the lack of IAB etc....

i just wired up my civic harness to the gsr, and the gsr has a green plug on the vtec solenoid that my ctr doesnt have. what does this plug do???

Vtec Oil pressure.

Your CTR motor is a JDM motor, they do not use a vtec pressure signal.

Just swap out vtec solenoids to make life easier.

but the gsr computer will look for it wont it?? also the type r doesnt have a crank sensor on the crank like the gsr, keith said the type r has it in the dizzy so will the gsr ecu get the right signal

Drop the dam motors in each shell, then figure out what you have to do from there.

crank angle sensors are located near the crank pulley/oil pump, both motors & harnesses should have one, unless JDM motors don't which I doubt.

The gsr computer will look for vtec oil pressure...
But the CIVICS HARNESS is wired to bypass the ecu from looking for a vtec oil pressure signal.

well we really cant do it like that the only downtime we have to work with is the time while the tranny is being rebuilt, so im sorry for the need to get this done as quick as possible but i need to gather as much info as i can so this will be done. mtber, you are the only person i know of that has any idea about this car.
