pulled pistons out today and the ringlands show no damage. the ring got caught in the cracked wall then wedged outward. unfortunately the piston is scratched pretty badly from the sleeve damage. all of the pistons had some carbon buildup but nothing that was excessive. none of the other cylinders were damaged and inspection of the cylinder head didn't show any signs of extended detonation damage.(i did have that problem before). other than the obvious damage the wasn't any scratches of any real concern. the "chips" in the picture are not anything other than rust stains... car sat for 9 days before disassembly.

like you said defective sleeve or detonation i didn't detect.
