Default b16 or ls

hey what up, i'm interested in swappin, i was lookin at either a b16 or b18a which i've heard is better in the long run 'cause i want turbo. i've been told that with a b16 head i'd drop the compression but maintain higher torque w/ the ls block. the b16 head also has vtec which i wouldnt mind having, (just more cash to spend). i'd also like to know where i could get either motor for a grand or less... so if anyone has suggestions or ideas for my swap say whats up.
by the way, it's for an 88 rex hf.

-what i was thinkin about doin was either a full ls swap for now cuz i need to drive the car asap and later on gettin the b16 head, and turbo after that. or just gettin the full b16 swap. please reply, thanks.

i had a b16 in my rex before. it was a lot of fun. but i have a crvtec now and its even more fun ls will give u better gas mileage plus a huge bump in power from where you're at. b16 will make more power but you'll have to wait for vtec whereas a b18 will make power all the way through. either way, ls vtec is your best bet for all motor, b16 is probably smartest for turbo

true, but at 7 psi most b16's will lay down 230-250 whp where the ls will only do 185-210. b16 head flows a lot better.

ls will do about the same as a b16.. you just need cams in the ls motor to make it produce as much power as the b16 under boost.

I personally would recommend you go with a ls motor if you plan on spraying or going turbo. Why? you already have a good compression, a good tranny for F/I & a cheap head to get cams for & replace.

If you plan on building an lsvtec in the future, the b16 platform is the way to go, you will have everything except bearings, new pumps & an ls block/rods/crank & higher compression pistons

Personally I like ls motors for F/I
Check out cheesefrog.com that is a good example of what an ls can do bahaha. Cheesefrog has a very nice lsturbo setup
