Default Why Hondata?

All I hear about is Hondata. Hondata works but what about it makes this the system of choice? There are many stand alone ECU's available. I would like to know what makes hondata so great and what does it offer that it's so highly recomended. I dont see that many serious cars at the track with it.Alot of the the pro's dont seem to like it.

You make good points. Yes for the average car hondata works the best. I have seen some very nice cars come out of your shop. You say after you tune Quickcivic that you will have 5 cars making exceptonal power (400+) on hondata. My point is a car such as Quickcivic has spent considerable amounts of cash on his car to make it fast. It seems to me he would want the best ECU. Is hondata the best? Yes it has come down in price, but is it the best? I chose AEM and it did cost me alot more than hondata. I wanted the best. I know you have alot of experience with hondata. Would you suggest it over another set up just based on price or do you feel it is truely the best? I wanted plug and play and liked all the new updates AEM has. I'm glad to get your opinion.

I personally sold my Speedpro unit for a Hondata system. Is the hondata better then the Speedpro...No. But for what I wanted and needed, it was the smarter choice. Boost ranges on the speedpro go in 1psi increments. On the hondata, they have some gaps in the tables where you have to extrapolate the range. John....Vapor....does so many of these that this extrapolation is easily done on the dyno. 19psi - 23psi....(I think if I remember right...that is a typical gap). There are many other features that the Speedpro doesnt have that the hondata does. Speedpro you have to run 2 engine harnesses....or make another one to run the alternator, vss, etc. Hondata...plug it in and done.

But the kicker is here: John is a great Hondata tuner. Who is the closest tuner for AEM, SpeedPro, etc? John can do it, but who knows those systems like the back of their hand? John knows hondata, and he is local. I made 464 with my hondata on a small sized turbo. I sold my speedpro and made 700 dollars on the difference. Think of how much power I could make with a +700 savings.

But it all boils down to.....what system does your tuner feel the most comfortable with?

AEM comes with base maps. I would think someone with johns experience would have no problem tunning something like that. Is that why it's recomended because a local tuner is good with it?On AEM once you get base mapped you can datalog and tue from there. If you get the wideband O2 then you have an accurate a/f reading. Less time on the dyno saves money in the long run.

I reasearched the various systems and for many of the reasons stated above I picked Hondata. I could have spent the extra money, and almost did - but in the end I am glad I went with Hondata. The car runs/idles like stock plus we have John right down the road who can tune the shit out of your ride. I am confident that I made the right decision for my car.

I'm not down grading hondata by any means. I wanted to learn more about it. Alot of people use it and i hardly ever hear anyone recomend anything else besides it. I went with AEM because for my needs it works best. I'm glad to hear all of this info on hondata. It sounds like they have made improvments.I did spend the extra $300 on wideband. The price you charge to tune hondata. I only had to pay once for my tunning.I wont be street tuning. I will datalog at the track and go from there. Most dyno tuners charge by the hour around $150. In the long run my car will be on the dyno alot less. Not to mention no burning chips which takes time.Less dyno time saves money. It's my choice. I wanted to get opinons of people that run it and tune it. Thanks for the info.
