you are forgetting one thing....

people like ls/vtecs and b18c's for their torque.

b16's have a stroke of only 77mm

even b17's only have 81mm

even if you do get them resleeved for (which is not cheap)

you still have the problem of short stroke.

would it not be easier to just get a b18a/b and use arp bolts and studs?

if done correctly anything is reliable...

i choose the b18 method because i like my torque

yes but boring it to 86mm makes up for the short stroke

well i have money for either.. i know the b16 reworked will end up costing more, but for a daily driver and only wanting about 350-400whp would it benefit me any to get the b16 and rework it or just stick with a b18c

Most people go with ARP rod bolts if retaining the stock ls rods. Aftermarket rods (ie Eagle) are decently price and offers a good insurance. Myself, I'd stick with ls rods and ARP rod bolts. The bolts usually go before the rods actually break (maybe it's a different case if the motor gets hydrolocked).

For all that money to get a 1.8L? I'd just get a LS block and sleeved and bored to 84mm >> 1.8L. More torque and if done correctly, just as reliable.

bore a b18 to 86mm, and your little frankenstein wont have a chance. Thats right, you got a 2.1L. 2.1L > 1.8L. And the b18 will have more tq, I dont kno who told oyu this big bore smal lstroke = torque but you need to slap him. stroke = low end torque, bore = high rpm torque. Thats 16% more displacement btw. For comparison, if you revved the b16 to 10,000rpm, you would only need to rev the b18 to 8400 (i kno i kno assuming torque curves were dead flat) and make more low end torque.

b16 is a terrible platform to start from if you want more displacement.
